If you think you will buy the expansions anyway (and trust they will be good), then it is a bet that they will cost you more in 6 months than "pre-buying" them in a package now. So there is both faith (or not) in the quality of the future expansions and an economic bet on their possible value.

But they could have made a General edition without the season pass and the Field Marshal with the season pass to please more people.

I think if you disregard cosmetic DLC's, the two expansion will not cost you the difference between FM and normal edition.

I don't gamble either and won't buy this "Field Marshal" edition.

But I understand Paradox is itself betting some people will be interested - the ones yelling "take my money" over the forum - and take their money they will do without remorse. If Paradox don't deliver later, they will be yelling over the forum for another reason.

If it comes down to the same price. It would seem to be wiser to me to wait and see if the DLC is even worthwhile.

Actually financially you are not paying for the other bonuses if the value of the 2 DLC is exactly 50 total, so you are actually saving money in the long term over buying colonel and the two DLC.
That is if the two expansions plus content packs are worth the 50 euros.

With the field marshal edition you don't just pay for future DLC,but for the other content as well.Stellaris is €70 with no DLC. So for HOI IV,I guess that would be €10 prepaid for each DLC. Probably €5 off each one.

Yep, I feel the same way. 40 euros for a game is a very good price.

I got the most expensive stellaris package I could cos PDS is my darling Dev. It turned out to be a mistake cos that game is not finished. Could HOI4 be the same? If these DLC's turn out to be Sunset invasion and Raj of India?

I'm tempted but without knowing what the expansions are going to be it's a hard sell. Expansions comparable to the £15 Art of War would definitely make it worth it, but some of the other expansions for EU4 I didn't think were worth the money.

The same was true of me.... but after stellaris.. and asking for £50 for content that should arguable be in the game. I dunno. I'm a raving fanboy but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
