Hello, everyone!

First, let me say this. I don't know the slightest thing about modding. However, I owned darkest hour and greatly enjoyed it, having over 700 hours on it.

Of course, darkest hour originally began as a mod for HOI2, and eventually turned into its own game.

The public reaction was overwhelmingly positive to DH.

I would love to see a Darkest Hour mod for HOI4, and see it be made better than ever due to the vast superiority of HOI4 over HOI3 :)

If anyone would be interested in making such a mod, please let me know! Once again, I don't know anything about modding, and thus would probably be a poor team leader. However, I would be happy to do whatever I can to support this (potential) mod, and am willing to learn a thing or two about modding :D

Darkest Hour is HoI2 based.

My list of required mods is ever growing and has reached the point that I think it'd probably qualify as a similar scale overhaul and replacement if I actually get it all done as one. Of course, I can't promise that it will all be done, that I won't just make it compatible with a ton of other people's mods to reach a close-enough end, and certainly not that it will be as awesome as DH, but if there's free labour on offer... Consider yourself conscripted as soon as the game comes out and I can look at the code.

It won't be all that much work, I've only got the tech trees, focus trees, construction, naval combat, aerial combat, diplomatic system, and supply system up as the high priority changes so far. Unless I've misplaced some of my notes.

That's a great idea - I have that annoyance in my Kaiserreich game. Such an option would reduce micro. Paradox should implement that.

As has already been said, DH was based on HOI2.

A not entirely dissimilar project for HOI3 (EvW) ended up being a complete disaster because, amongst a number of other things, there is only so much that can be achieved through soft-coding. Beyond a certain level you have to have professionals doing work on the .exe file. I really doubt that Paradox will ever run that kind of project again - the failure of both EvW and Magna Mundi (a similar project for EU3) must surely have shown them that these things are best done in-house.

Even DH, it has to be said, has its flaws. Its biggest flaw was that BL decided, somewhat bizarrely, to develop three different upgrades for HOI2 independently - Iron Cross greatly increased the number of provinces, Arsenal of Democracy introduced interesting game mechanisms, and DH's biggest selling point when it launched was that it had a WW1 scenario. This meant that DH lacked many of the good elements of AoD and IC - I would have loved it had they just been able to focus their efforts in a single game, and with proper management they would have.

Oh, map overhauls are on the list, but relatively low importance. The air forces integrating into the battle plans would be great, it'll just have to be seen how well the code can support it (most of the rest I'm sure can be done through relatively simple soft coding, albeit somewhat brutal and lengthy if the game as released is unhelpful, this I'm not so sure about. Great to have the support, guess I may start a thread / other system of communicating with anyone willing soon to get people who aren't myself to look at the groundwork.

I completely agree. Please, @podcat !

This is also why I don't play Italy or Germany: organizing the navy and Air Force takes forever... I truly wish I could let the AI do that part for me :(

DH doesn't really have any downsides I can think of. Btw. my biggest selling point on the game was the new high resolution, crisp map and all the UI improvements (like being able to set infinite missions on a regional level for air and naval forces).
Whether or not we'll have something like DH for HoI4 depends on Fernando Torres and his team and probably also on HoI4 itself.

I don't remember being able to set infinite missions on such a high level in any HoI2 incarnation incl. Armageddon. As for IC and DH, who cares? The IC map sucks anyways in a 100% manually controlled game and AoD only had the synthetic factories going for it (personally I also preferred the more compact casualty screen). Didn't hurt the almost flawless DH in any way.
I wasn't aware that BL was behind all those games. I thought DH was done by an entirely different team. Well, I guess there's always something fresh to learn.

or try Germany in the Kaiserreich mod - Mein Gott! :( (and take the decisions to expand the navy and get even more) :D

Hello, everyone!

First, let me say this. I don't know the slightest thing about modding. However, I owned darkest hour and greatly enjoyed it, having over 700 hours on it.

Of course, darkest hour originally began as a mod for HOI2, and eventually turned into its own game.

The public reaction was overwhelmingly positive to DH.

I would love to see a Darkest Hour mod for HOI4, and see it be made better than ever due to the vast superiority of HOI4 over HOI3 :)

If anyone would be interested in making such a mod, please let me know! Once again, I don't know anything about modding, and thus would probably be a poor team leader. However, I would be happy to do whatever I can to support this (potential) mod, and am willing to learn a thing or two about modding :D

Black Ice was to "Fix and develop" Hoi 3.

Expect something to "fix" HOI 4.

Oh Lord, I hope not. After a two year development delay the last thing ANYONE wants is another year of patching and modding before the game even becomes "good". It would be nice, if, just for once, a modern game was released "good to go" on release day - no bug fixing or patching required - like they used to be.

Regardless if people liked DH or not, I guess anyone would like to see more modding tools for maps.

Since HOI4 will be a better release than HOI3 I think it´s nice if people start modding it from day one. Regardless if it´s about putting more or less provinces. The key really is variety.
