Hello and welcome to another Development Diary for Darkest Hour.
It's with mixed feelings that we announce the release of patch 1.05. Obviously there's pride and joy in presenting our work to our players. But there's also a bit of sadness, because the release of this patch is long past due. Unfortunately the active developers are fewer than before and some of them have many pressing tasks to deal with. Therefore progess has been very slow and we didn't accomplish many of the tasks that initially were in scope for 1.05.
Having said that, the patch is still full of what we believe is an impressive amount of bug fixes, with few new features that we hope you'll enjoy. There are many small improvements and enhacements to help both players and modders. All together, patch 1.05 will bring a better gaming experience for Darkest Hour. Here's a brief overview on the major changes.

First of all, we modified the CV Sprites which caused the CTD Issues with the latest AMD GPU Drivers. Hopefully this problem is solved for good. :)
At the pressing requests of many modders, we added 60 more user country TAGs (UA0, UA1, UA2, UA3, UA4, UA5, UA6, UA7, UA8, UA9, UB0, UB1, UB2, UB3, UB4, UB5, UB6, UB7, UB8, UB9, UC0, UC1, UC2, UC3, UC4, UC5, UC6, UC7, UC8, UC9, UD0, UD1, UD2, UD3, UD4, UD5, UD6, UD7, UD8, UD9, UE0, UE1, UE2, UE3, UE4, UE5, UE6, UE7, UE8, UE9, UF0, UF1, UF2, UF3, UF4, UF5, UF6, UF7, UF8, UF9). We hope this is enough for the time being.
Among the new features, we added auto-attachment options for land and air brigades and improved the existing naval brigades auto-attachment logic. We also added comprehensive information on tool-tips of brigades and units about their modifiers and attributes. For the same reason, we improved the tooltip of the effects of domestic policies and we added color to effects values. We also added color to minister effect values. These are small changes but we think they will improve the players' experience.
Another change is that we exported to misc.txt the ESE bonus from offensive supply and now the tooltip displays actual ESE bonus and days duration. Maybe modders will use this and other small features in ways that even we cannot foresee!
But perhaps a few pictures can describe these small improvements more than a thousand words. :)

Now a quick overview of the most important improvements to commands and triggers:
  • added treaty duration parameter to non_aggression command (default is 2 years);
  • added two new commands add_brigade and build_brigade to, respectively, create a new brigade into deployment pool and order the construction of a new brigade;
  • added dig_in_max command to change max land units dig-in level for a country and dig_in_daily command to change the dig-in level increase per day for a country;
  • added add_core_area, add_core_region, add_claim_area, add_claim_region, remove_core_area, remove_core_region, remove_claim_area, remove_claim_region - these ones don't need a description ;) ;
  • expanded industrial_modifier command with individual options for IC, energy, metal, rare materials, oil, supplies and money;
  • improved nuked trigger texts to include details about number of nukes, target and destination countries and province when applicable;
We hope the modders will be able to use these and the other improvements that we made to commands and triggers in patch 1.05 to make even better mods! :)

Modders will also appreciate a few improvements to error logs:
  • added country TAG next to fired events log;
  • added validation and error report (debug level 1) of ministers assigned to offices on new scenario start;
  • added check and error report (debug level 1) when a leader is defined as commander on multiple units or when invalid leader ID is defined as commander of a unit;
  • added detailed information (in CSV ready format) for models of all units and brigades to savedebug.txt (debug level 2);
We certainly made good use of these new validations to find a few mistakes in our own files!

Back to new features, among many fixes to existing events and decisions we also added a few new event chains:
  • added new events to offer territories to Romania and Finland after Bitter Peace in exchange for their joining the Axis;
  • added event chain for Deutschland merchant U-boat in 1914 scenario;
  • improved event chain of Austro-Hungarian concessions to Italy in 1914 scenario (now possible choices are Trento (historical) / Trento and Trieste / Trento, Trieste and the Dalmatian coast from Split to Dubrovnik);
  • added event chain for the partition of the People's Republic of Poland between allied DDR and SOV in 1933 scenario;


We also integrated various country-specific Improvement Mods, fixed many issues with some ministers set in power on scenario start detected by the new error logs, fixed different spelling of the same person, fixed many issues with pictures used by multiple persons, added 4 new techs (Advanced mining - 1935, Advanced oil extraction - 1935, Modern mining - 1946, Modern oil extraction - 1946) and added all remaining missing tech components names.

Before posting the whole patch notes, we want to thank all of our players and modders. We received many detailed bug reports, suggestions and improvements and our community helped us make Darkest Hour an even better game. Listing every single person would not be possible, so we're going to make a very short list of the most prominent contributors. In no particular order: kujiro, Pioniere, novapaddy, Treeplace, bestmajor, Dzakuza, Sargeras, PAW, Stahl-Opa, eeeex, Andrei Gijgorev, Czudak X and the TRP team. So this explains why my CVs kept getting battered so badly.
All changes in this patch to mechanics related to CV strikes on port and airbases should be considered as fixes. In general I cleaned up the code and the logic there from obvious issues and illogical effects without adding anything new.

See my note above. CV strike on ports mission in the game is meant to attack fleets in ports, not to get both fleets and all air units in the province in a single battle against a CV fleet. There were multiple issues with combat modifiers too. The "new" version surely is not perfect, but at least it is consistent and free of obvious problems.

I'm glad you liked those! Personally I find them very useful for both game-play and modding.
