The end of Zygmont Vasa
Zygmont continued the fight against the Russians - and it would last 3 more years before he final destiny. All of Poland and Sweden were taken and Zygmont caught and beheaded by the Russians, before his head was sent with a diplomat to Christian. Christian finally got his revenge allthough through an ally. Russians took their price and annexed most of sweden except 4 provinces - while the poles continued fightning for a while as the personal union between Sweden and Poland was dissolved.

Christian was tired of the bloodshed, and all he wanted was to mingle with the other nobles and royals at the court. There he would spent the next many years.
Economic Boom:
Even though his force was not within administration, he started an economic boom in Denmark (with some help from the riches of Danzig), that had never been seen before.
He increased the Cultural Tradition and produced some of the finest Great Men that had ever seen a court - 2 minters and one Statesman to help the Government Technology, as well as founding the National Bank. With both Minters and the National Bank, the foundation for a healthy economy was now excisting.
The great men at Christians court were surely great (note that russia has now taken a bite more of Polish territory)

Christian also wanted to be remembered as a great architect. He founded a Weapons manufactory in Vårmland - and reformed lands around the country.
And it was his plan to build manufactories all over the country to improve research and economy.

On the diplomatic front fellow protestants Brandenburg wanted to ally with us. Christian agreed - hopefully keeping Austria from attacking them.
Colonial adventure and Emanuel Gersdorffs quest for an East India Trade Company:
Christian still wants to increase the danish territory. But the near future that increase might not lie in Europe. Sweden is an easy target – but within Russias Sphere of influence – and we don’t want to give them an excuse. Bremen, Hansa and Holstein are all part of HRE dominated by Austria – whom I don’t want to wage war with. Colonizing is not possible -as we dont have the range - all we can get is Bermuda which we accept bringing our colonies in americas up to 4. Antigua, St, Kitts Bermuda and Atikamekw.
So we decide to go for Bali in the south east asia – time to build up a colonial fleet and landforce – make friends along the route - and prepare for war.
In 1626 Admiral Emanuel Gersdorff is sent towards Bali with the sole purpose of conquering and annexing Bali – Portugal has fortunately opened their harbours for us. He is in charge of 6 fluyts – 2 early frigates and 2 galleons carrying 3 maurician inf , 2 cav and 1 can. And the conquest is succesful - in early 1628 Bali is annexed and are now a part of the danish Kingdom.

After the conquest the King return to the Nobles for their economic support in opening an East India Trade Company. Unfortunately the Nobles thinks Bali is to far away for a company HQ after all - and withdraws their support. Christian is Furious but has no other alternative and sends Emanuel towards India and the single province of Dadra.
They are also declared war and Emanuel quickly kills their army and besiges their fort.
Unfortunately Emanuel dies a month into the siege, succumbed by a unknown tropical disease.
The troops continue their siege but then as we are almost through the siege -a diplomat arrives from an unexpected side with a letter of WAR
The Netherlands - those catholic basterds are declaring war on me - fortunately Russia honours our treaty - with the Netherlands are Brittanny and Navarro.

Why on earth?
The dutch alliance do not declare their purpose for their war declaration - unless you count "you dishonourable scum" as an explanation. Their objective can only be our colonies in the americas. They can for sure not count on any land gain in our homeland? - If they do they'll suffer.
Our first objective must be naval supremacy in order to win this war.
The Dutch Alliance is not frightening - but their navy size about equal.

Meanwhile in India - Christian realizes that our newly dead east indian Admiral Emanuel Gersdorff has made another terrible mistake. Emanuel thought he was declaring war on a single weak province - but the province turned out to a part of the south Indian Madurai empire. An empire almost the same size as ours. We decide to continue our siege and monitor the situation closely in the future..

Preparing our Navy
The first thing our russian ally do is to send their divided navy towards Netherland - where they are Quickly defeated. Christian is not too unhappy as we dont want the russian navy to grow bigger than ours. Our three island colonies Bermuda, Antigua and St. Kitts is quickly seized by Brittany and Navarro. We need to expand our navy fast - before we have too much to catch up. Soon the whole of Denmark and southern Norway will be busy in the harbours making war ships for the upcoming naval battle. Christian appoints a new Admiral Maximiliam Harboe - our Naval tradition is only 29 but we need leadership on the high seas.
Not a Nelson or a Tordenskjold - but Maximiliam will prove his worth in Gold.

Brittany and Navarro tries a few landings on our homesoil but is quickly defeated. In order to win the americas we send Maxiliam ships with 4 divs towards Atikamekw - hopefully enough to overtake the weak dutch provinces there. He unloads the troops as planned and wins a few smaller naval battles there before returning home.
When he returns to the south Norwegian sea - the dutch navy cunningly surprises him with 2 galleons and 13 early frigates. Maximiliams force is 4 galleons 2 early frigates 7 galleases and 6 fluyts - we have numbers but is lacking quality. We have 6 more early frigates on their way - but they are to far away in the Øresund - they wont play any role for now.
The battle goes on for a few days until finally the dutch looses morale just before us and turns northwards losing only two early frigates. Our losses is 7 galleases and 2 frigates. It looks bad - but we actually has the upper hand. Maximiliam then picks up 6 fresh frigates and charges the dutch again – ending up in a major naval victory - the whole dutch war navy wiped out, a little more than a year after the war started. Christian is happy.

Dadra finally succumbs to our siege, and we start a stalemate war on exhaustion. For now we have no hope of bringing more troops to the east india - we must do with what we have. Madurai tries several landings with larger armies - but is defeated everytime.
Bali rebels succeeds in taking back Bali. We want to keep that beautiful little island - but it must wait for now.

Our three island colonies are still seized - but our army of atikamekw is succesfully defeating the dutch so far (with a slight help from the russians). This is again due to our our Navys. As the dutch fleet is wiped out - they cant get any more troops out there.

Then disaster strikes again. Christian Von Oldenburg had primarily spent his last two years in Danzig surpressing a few rebellions and ensuring that the rich COT would remain on danish hands. Then unfortunate events would strike our Royal line again. Christians suddenly dies during a hunting trip, as his horse falls with and on him - while chasing a wounded deer. The king had ruled for 20 years allthough only lived to be 37 years. But he had succeeded in further expansion of our realm as well as building a strong economy.

Glad to see Danish naval supremacy bringing about victory. Your colonial holdings seem to be increasing quite nicely (provided you wrest back control from Brittany and Navarra!), but do you see mainland European conquests as viable at some point? Do you plan to demand parts of the Netherlands, Brittany etc. for example?

In general the smaller german states Hansa, Bremen, Oldenburg, Pommerian, Holstein - would properbly be a good expansion. As Austria is HRE I would assume I should be strong enough to deal with them first though - and maybe Russia would not like to honour our treaty leaving me i a very vulnerable position.
Sweden is also a likely target - but in Russias Sphere - and we dont want to give them another casus belli (than the colonial one).
So I play it slow now - will do anything to stay allied with Russia - and have an eye for opportunities. And the war against the dutch alliance gave me one. Yes I have the chance to take some of Brittanys and Navarro - but actually I think it could be the reason for future wars against france/spain/England - and my empire is spread enough as it is. I think the dutch colonies in americas and Friesland - would be a good price for this war.

LOL - actually the present danish royal line originates from a count didrik or so from Oldenburg - hence the name. Yeah at some point Oldenburg for sure will become danish.

Frederik III von Oldenburg is clearly an administrative genius (7), a somewhat mediocre general (5), and terrible at court mingeling - diplomacy(4). His first task is to win the wars against the Netherland alliance and the Madurais.
Progress in Americas
The war in Dadra and Europe is in a stalemate the first couple of years. Dadra is ours and our east indian colonial force continously repels any invading force the Madurais can muster. They wont give up on Dadra though -at least not yet. I Europe our naval supremacy means that we can begin planning invading the Dutch motherland - but for now the focus is on Americas first.
Our seized colonies in Antigua and St. Kitts has now grown to town size of more than 1000 inhabitants. This is very bad news to us - as we have to pay infamy points if we want to regain them. Frederik adopts another plan. He wants all of the north American Dutch land on Danish hands and with naval supremacy its a fairly easy task. He quickly allocates the nessecary forces to Americas and beats the Dutch - and the sieges are quickly won as well.
This means we can start our invasion of Netherlands.
The invasion of the Lowlands
As we dont have to many transport ships - the best way to deal with the relatively large dutch homeland force, is by land.
Frederik sends his diplomats towards Holstein, Bremen and Oldenburg - and they do not want to stand in our way - and allows us access through their countries. Frederik takes charge of the invading force and starts the march. The Dutch main force stays in Holland leaving Friesland to an easy occupation by Frederik. The siege of Friesland lasts a year before they surrender, and then Frederik immediately charges Holland across the strait from Friesland.

Frederik is not a natural born military leader. He lacks the neccessary patience during the daily routines of marching and exhausting Long sieges. But once he hits the battleground - he shows his worth and military upbringing.

And it would show in his first real task. A difficult assault with 14k against 10k dug in dutch troops waiting on the other side of the strait between Friesland and Holland. Fortunatley the dutch did not have much cavalry and no guns - and they were fairly easily overrunned by our young King and his troops.
Overhearing the warnings
With the homeland army defeated and Holland under siege - the dutch morale is broken completely, and we can easily dictate the peace negotiations and payments. During the negotations Frederik receives several warnngs from other european neighbouring states - they dont want us to become too strong and greedy - but Frederik overhears this. It was the dutch who started the war - and they must pay the price.
The Dutch give up all their colonies in Americas + Friesland in exchange for peace. Frederik gets his reward - but will later learn that it comes at a price...... A badboy is born.
We loses our seized colonies in St kitts and Antigua to Navarra and Brittany but Bermuda stays Danish.

Frederik III von Oldenburg - The back against the wall - Part 1
No more Bearhugs
Frederiks prize of 6 dutch regions would soon prove costly. Only 3 weeks after the dutch surrender - Holstein declared war with their allies Sweden. This was not any problem -the problem came when Russia decided to not to honour our call and thus the alliance with our mighty neighbour came to an end after 32 years. And way too early as we are not ready if Russia decides to attack us. So we are going from a relatively safe position to a somewhat insecure. Being unallied does not mean that we have to wage war though - and we are going to put a lot of effort into keeping the russian bear happy with the Danes.
From bad to worse
Only one week later situation has worsened immensly.....
1) The Poles and their ally Saxony have declared war against us
2) Pommerian have declared war against us
3) Russia have sent us an insult.
4) our enemies have succesfully incited revolts in Sjælland and Bergenhus.
And we are still at war in east India. Frederik knows he is in a very bad position, and that we have to minimize our enemies - starting with the weakest ones - if we are going to survive.
Frederik Peacemaker
First he decides to call off the East indian trade company plan for now - and makes peace with Madurai.
2ndly - our naval force sets up an effective blockade against the Pommerians and thereafter they accept our white peace offer with open arms.
3rdly Holstein is easily overrun and besieged. The siege doesnt last for more than a few months - and Frederik decides to annex Holstein even though the rest of Europe will not like this one either. This means we are at peace with Sweden as they were Holstiens ally.
Meanwhile the Poles have taken Øsel, Warmia and Danzig - and we have fought down the revolts in Sjælland and Bergenhus.

Frederik now has a good chance of beating the Poles and Saxony in a land battle - and he quickly assembles a force of 20K troops, who via Pommerian attacks the Polish at Danzig. The Poles are dug in behind a river though and almost as many as the Danes. A fierce battles starts, but after heavy losses Frederik has to retreat.
Then suddenly help comes from an unexpected angle.
HRE declares war on Poland - and wupti we get a white peace offer we cannot decline. We survived against all odds.

No more Bearhugs
Frederiks prize of 6 dutch regions would soon prove costly. Only 3 weeks after the dutch surrender - Holstein declared war with their allies Sweden. This was not any problem -the problem came when Russia decided to not to honour our call and thus the alliance with our mighty neighbour came to an end after 32 years. And way too early as we are not ready if Russia decides to attack us. So we are going from a relatively safe position to a somewhat insecure. Being unallied does not mean that we have to wage war though - and we are going to put a lot of effort into keeping the russian bear happy with the Danes.
From bad to worse
Only one week later situation has worsened immensly.....
1) The Poles and their ally Saxony have declared war against us
2) Pommerian have declared war against us
3) Russia have sent us an insult.
4) our enemies have succesfully incited revolts in Sjælland and Bergenhus.
And we are still at war in east India. Frederik knows he is in a very bad position, and that we have to minimize our enemies - starting with the weakest ones - if we are going to survive.
Frederik Peacemaker
First he decides to call off the East indian trade company plan for now - and makes peace with Madurai.
2ndly - our naval force sets up an effective blockade against the Pommerians and thereafter they accept our white peace offer with open arms.
3rdly Holstein is easily overrun and besieged. The siege doesnt last for more than a few months - and Frederik decides to annex Holstein even though the rest of Europe will not like this one either. This means we are at peace with Sweden as they were Holstiens ally.

Nursing the Bear
Frederik has repelled everything our angry neighbours could send against us. Luckily HRE Austria and Russia are still our friends. Russias friendship comes at a price though - they keep on insulting us - while we use most our diplomats and all our earnings on gifts trying to keep that relation score above 100.
We must be loved
With a BB peak at 28.1 just after the annexation of Holstein, Frederik begins to focus on bringing the BB down. Unfortunately Frederik is poor at diplomacy himself (4) so He hires a great diplomat Joergen Moltke (from our own batch) - at the expense of Erik Liljenskjold - our government tech investigator. We now have 2 minters and a diplomat. This will hopefully help a bit.

Peace would only prevail for less than a year. In july 1639 the French (and their ally Tuscany) declared war - as we are disposable scum. Their real target must be our colonies in Americas which they border. As we have no close borders in Europe - the key to victory is once more Naval superiority - and here odds look even.

Stuck in South Africa
Our east indian colonial force of 2 galleons, Five fluyts and 6 regiments is heading home and have reached South Africa. Here a superior Tuscany Fleet pops up and starts a blockade, leaving our forces stranded for a while.
The small fishes in the pond goes for the wounded animal
Sweden takes this as an opportunity and declares war with Hansa and Pommerian. But again when things look very bad, helps come unexpectetly. Russia declares war on sweden and their allies shortly giving us the upper hand in that war.

Our new admiral Chritian Nørby surprises a smaller french force of 9 warships (galleons and frigates) on the coast of jutland - and with our forces totally outnumbering, they are all easily sunk. But this is only the start - soon almost all of our forces are engaged somehow - as shown in the screenshoot below. So far we leave the colonials and the French war - we will deal with them when our homecountry is secured.
Total war hits us - Frisish Revolters from Gelre attacks us in Friesland, we try to kill off the Swedish main army in Våstergotland, We just beat the pommerians in Hinterpommern, Our navy is slaughtering the Hansa navy – and Holstein under siege by Hansa. Busy times.

Munster then declares war and soon Utrecht and Oldenburg joins. Meanwhile the war in Americas is also very defensive. The french are occupying Micmac - while our forces is trying to kill off revolters. The Tuscanys have left south Africa - and our east indian forece is heading for the Americas - they are needed.
In Americas were on the defensive. French naval forces keep us from collecting our two armies, and revolters does not make thing easier.

Suddenly Louis XIII de Bourbon attacks Frederik in Danzig outnumbering us almost 4/1. This is very bad news ideed - as Danzig and Warmias is suddenly at stake.
He wandered through Bavaria and Austria, who allowed them access. Those Basterds - that took us totally bý surprise. Things dont look good now.

Our new diplomat at the court is doing a good job, our BB is down to 24,5 when we suddely gets this perfect option - and cuts off 6 more points.

MICMAC and the legendary 6
The war against France and Tuscany continues. The Frech brought an army of totally 45K to Danzig and Warmia. Both forts have fallen to the massive french force, and has to be forgotten until we have dealt with our other foes and the french in Americas. Our east Indian force finally arives and starts attacking the two french provinces. MICMAC is under siege and are assualted several times by the french. Legendary things happen when the french attacks for the 3rd time. When they french finally breaks - only 6 survivors are left in Micmac. Just in time for our our East indian force who finally arrives in MicMac after taking the two french provinces of Acadia and Epekwitk. The french siege is broken.

Frederik continueously sends diplomats to Loius, trying to cut a deal we can live with. So far a no go. But after the win in Americas, Louis has had enough. And Frederik knows this. He sends a Diplomat with an offer where France safe face, and leaves France with what could seem a victory. We don't loose anything really. Our price is the cancellation of our military access agreement through Pommerian and Hansa. Not a big price for Peace.
Final dealings with the german minors.
This leaves us with Munster, Utrecht and Oldenburg as foes. They are easily run over, and as we dont want any more BB points wie drain their treasury instead of province takeovers - all 3 peaces in total gains us 2250 Ducats, which we can still use, as Russia continues with their insults, and we also spend money on Austria these days - trying to bring our realms closer.
Again Peaceful times for the Danes - but with our BB at 18 how long will it last?

THX - I'm definately learning a BadBoy lesson here - Have never before been in this position, as I In my previous games have expanded very slowly. Also playing my first game on Very Hard doesnt make things better. I have chosen to try to bring my BB down - but I was considering just eating all the provinces I could from my smaller enemies, which eventually would make me as strong enough to repel Austria or even Russia.

Magistrate Bug?
I've encountered a few funny things with magistrates.
Population Census - Always deducts 10% of my population - never adds. This is Bad as it is a very powerful way to use your Magistrates due to the side effects - tax, manpower.
Arrange Festival - Always adds 5 Prestige - never deducts 5 or reduce my infamy. This is good as it is a very easy way to keep my prestige high and gain the good effects.
Have anybody encountered this?

I've not used population census very much as the 50% chance for a 10% penalty to population growth rather scares me off it, thus I'm afraid I cannot help you with that. However I have seen 'Arrange Festival' remove 5 prestige (indeed it seems to do little else for me!), so I guess you are being lucky in that respect!
