Does it ever seem to you that the countries you need to do well in EU always eat it and the countries you don't want to do well always do awesome?

Normally in all my games, Poland always kicks ass, minimizing Russian power. Well in this game as Persia, Russia has kicked ass, and has already stolen over half of Poland's provinces by the mid 17th century. It also ate all the khanates except Crimea(which it allied with), so I couldn't get to them in times. Russia has DoWed me three time and I have been dragged into war with them by allies twice, giving me a new extreme security threat.

Normally, Turkey takes most of Eastern Europe, or at least keeps the land they start with + the Mameluke lands. Well this game I decide to bribe them into becoming my allies. I've never seen them do worse. They get their butts kicked by the European Christians. In the last war, the Greeks declare independence getting the Cyclades, Morea, Hellas, and Macedonia. Greece then proceeds to take Constantinople and Smyrna, and then Turkey's government falls so the Greeks get those two provinces. Turkey's capital is now in Burma, a 700 person reformed Christian colony they stole from the Dutch. I have never seen the Greeks declare independence before, much less see the AI grab Constantinople before. And it wasn't like I was being a bad ally either- Turkey was the alliance leader and I was fighting hard against Russia who was on the other side.....

Also, Spain stole all of Austria's provinces except one, and they are doing so well they are already past 2000 VPs, which make victory near impossible especially since Persia doesn't usually get too many VPs.

Murphy's Law of Diplomacy.

Often times, a human player running around in a certain area will gum up the works, because the AI are reacting to a different set of events than the ones that normally happen when you're on the other side of the continent. But why your allies should do spectacularly badly I don't know - unless it's because you dragged them into idiot wars. :D

I'm surprised you made an ally of Turkey. Traditionally, they're the biggest enemy the Persians have. If you try this again, you should make a point of going east and trying to knock over some Indian territory...

Turkey usually self-destructs when it finds itself fighting several wars at once. I keep seeing this.

If AI Turkey is only fighting one war at a time, and provided it has a couple of good allies, then AI Turkey usually does pretty good.

But again, an AI Turkey fighting multiple wars (simultaneously) will get very confused. It will not know how to coordinate attacks even if it has good leaders. It will simply self-destruct.

to be honest, the strongest AI Turkey I have seen are those that only rarely get into wars early on. In these cases, the AI Turkey is concentrating a lot of effort on vassalizing a lot of minors, diplomacy, and strong economic growth. Those are the ones that will end up becoming dominant and strong and properous later on...

All the AI nations get confused when in multiple wars-if you haven't noticed, when a new war is declared the AI will promptly start moving its' forces towards the new enemy, regardless of who else they're fighting, where they are or what they were doing (this can be useful when calling in your allies to support you!:D) Turkey can get hit worst by this because it can be in an extremely vulnerable situation with regard to its' frontiers.

The military AI is one of the aspects of the game that cries out for improvement in EU2.:)

Good point. Though it leads to the odd conclusion that Turkey will do better if it fails to beat the Mamelukes too heavily, and has to settle for chewing them up piecemeal. Whenever it annexes them straight off the bat, it gets wiped out in BB wars.

Which is strange when you think about it as the Mameluke total annexation hit isn't really that bad-something like fifteen at most, if I'm remembering correctly.

Ten for the provinces, but where's the other five come from? They don't get five for annex same religion, do they?

Since a straight annex gives a BB hit for each colony as well, and they've got at least twelve or thirteen provinces total, my estimate is closer, Admiral Yi-although I was erring on the generous side, I'll admit!:)
