So I'm preparing for a Dai Viet run and I'm wondering, am I supposed to stay Mahayana or adopt Confucianism? I'm strictly speaking from historical point of view, because I'm playing tall and roleplaying my campaigns, so I want to choose the most correct way, even if the other choice is better in the game.
I do plan to take the mandate, but not all of China, of course, that would no longer be a tall campaign.

Vietnam has a Buddhist majority today. Mahayana Buddhist. And that is the historical route.

Confucianism as the religion of the state. Most of the content in its civil service examinations came from Confucian classics. The political structure was heavily influenced by its northern neighbor. And Vietnam today is a communist country that does not have a huge religious population(correct Wikipedia if this is wrong).

Vietnam in practice is market socialist (it has a stock exchange!), and the Wikipedia article on religion in Vietnam notes that the government statistics are based on membership of recognized organizations, rather than questions of belief or practice.

Also, "what is a Buddhist?" is a tricky question that doesn't have a convenient reductive answer the same way "what is a Christian?" does. You can perfectly well be both a practitioner of Buddhism and a practitioner of your country's traditional folk religion.

This. My favorite statistic is from the CIA World Factbook on Japan under "Religion":
Shintoism 69%, Buddhism 66.7%, Christianity 1.5%, other 6.2% (2018 est.)

If the bug is still not fixed, only Buddhism.

The event says Mahayana would be harmonised - but it used to be bugged.

Can everyone say if it is fixed ?
It is fixed, Mahayana gets harmonized

What will you do to the Khmer next door.
