d3dx9_41.dll is missing

When I try to start my game from steam I get the pre-load screen and when I try to play I get an error saying: d3dx9_41.dll is missing.

What should I do?

I have the same error.

However: the .dll file in question is installed in the correct folder.

Can it have anything to do with being a new installation on a new laptop?

Execute from the installation directory not the steam app. Probably steam launcher's fault.

This I tried too, it told me two .dll files weren't found.

After a bit of dilly-dallying I simply copied these two files into the directory and both the steam launcher and the .exe in the installation directory work like a charm.
