I feel like I'm missing something but the world starts with Czechoslovakia in '36 and then Germany invades and takes over the Sudetenland and continues by occupying the rest of the country. The Slovak Republic was a client state of Germany, a puppet state if you will, and not really Slovakia. After Germany surrendered they got taken over by The Soviet Union and stayed "under its protection" until the collapse. Then Czechoslovakia dissolves in 1993 and up until then Slovakia hasn't really existed as a free state, right? So... What's the problem?

Edit: Oh right, the thread was about Czechia. Well, it wasn't really a separate state before 1993 either so why should it be separate in the game..?

Nationalism. People want their country to be in game, or don't want another country in game to be claiming its name. You get a lot of that in historical games.

. I'm starting to feel like you are being difficult for difficulties sake. No government takes the name of a land they down not own at all.

Having both Czechoslovakia and Slovakia is the same as having both Austria-Hungary and Hungary :)
Just to clear things up.

Interessting example. Here is an other one: The Austrian Empiror also used the (Titular) Title King of Jerusalem. With early modern monarchs espacially this was a very common practis for underlining and keeping your claim. The same basic principle applies to the koreas. Yes it's stranger in the case of czechoslovakia but think of it this way: when soviet hungery established the slovak soviet republic as a puppet in 1919 Czechoslovakia didn't rename itselfe as a consequence. That said of course it's problematic and silly to have both Czechoslovakia and Slovakia as puppets of the same overlord on the map. I would agree that Czechoslovakia should atleast change it's name than. But the czech republic is not the first nation that needs to be moded in.

Yeah I suppose. It is a pretty historical game from the start so I don't really see why it should be modified except when it suits the game play way better than historical accuracy.

I think that's a bit of a rash judgment. It's easy to be annoyed by a soviet union that realeses slovakia first and than czechoslovakia. That doesn't make a lot of sence.

If they're both puppets of the USSR, then I've been speaking whilst badly misinformed and a lot of what I've said shouldn't apply.

the screenshot isn't much to go on. we are all badly missinformed. but that is what generally happens in my experience the soviets come frome the east and 'free' slovakia and than they push ahead and release czechoslovakia.

I am not referring to the protectorate. I do not think the protectorate should be its own country. To be clear on my post's intent.

because without it, you will have lots of situations where Czechoslovakia and Slovakia exist on the same map which makes no sense....

who on earth could argue it does?

Where does it say that Czechoslovakia and Slovakia exists on the same map? The only thing I could find on the screenshot you posted was a cut off name that ended with "vakia".

It was Czechoslovakia and the Slovak Republic on the same map.

I am not Czech. I don't even know a single Czech person so I don't like those people claiming its nationalism. Its about a map that makes sense. I'd be just as annoyed if there was "Bosnia and Herzegovina" that only had the territory of Bosnia, and "Herzegovina" was also a separate country. Its very simply, and only, about a map and a game that makes sense.
And in HOI3 I had lots of situations where Czechoslovakia and Slovakia were on the same map which is why I was forced to mod it in that if Slovakia exists, Czechoslovakia cannot be released and I created the Czech Republic as an alternative.

Me. You have a short memory.

I don't count you anymore because I meant "reasonably" argue it.

Huh. I can't really tell where that is so it would be helpful if you could highlight it!

Fair enough! If we focus on the historical accuracy then sure, Czechoslovakia and the Slovak Republic can't exist at the same time and is a mistake if that's the case.

I am not Czech. I don't even know a single Czech person so I don't like those people claiming its nationalism.

I don't count you anymore because I meant "reasonably" argue it.[/QUOTE]

Oh, well, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. You're just incapable of re-evaluating things.

Sure, when you can't fault my reasoning, just say I didn't have any. Ignore the fact that actual history is impossible under your model. Just dismiss all other opinions without examining them.

Fair enough! If we focus on the historical accuracy then sure, Czechoslovakia and the Slovak Republic can't exist at the same time and is a mistake if that's the case.

If that was the case at the start date yes. But historical accuracy can't exist at a later point anyway. History happend only once in one spesific form so historical accuracy ceses to be a factor when you depart from the historical path. You can't expect alternet history to be historical accurat. And having a czech republik in the games timeframe would be equaly historicaly inaccurete because it did not exist.

@Anichent : How do you handle civil wars? In that case you could have 2 slovakias too. Would you complain about a slovak rebellion declaring it's independence from czechoslovakia in victoria 2? The point is it depends on the situation as I have pointed out before the Slovak Soviet Republic and Czechoslovakia have existed at the same time. Geographical regions are not relevent to the political mapmode in HoI 4. To make sure there is still just one slovakia in the game I recomend swiching to the mapmode that shows you the states. Oh wait I have to warn you after all: They have wester, eastern and southern slovakia as seperate regions! So there are three slovakias at the same time outragous! But honestly I don't understand why it nessecerily has to be a problem.

you can't imagine how badly "Czechia" hears for mine ears as someone who lives in Czech republic.

The name came a bit out of the blue for us, the media discussing it like last week and almost never before.

What I found mostly hillarious that someone from "CzechTourism" claimed today in media that if we were to use "Czechia" as official name we would have to return 1 billion of CZK to Europian Union because we used that amount of money to promote "Czech republic" in the world :).

So the ones that pushed the "Czechia" to united nations wants to make this unofficial or something :). It was basically action of 3 guys deciding that we should send to united nations as an answer for the "1-word description question" "Czechia"...

And you want to make it official description of the area in 1939??? please...

That's also true. Even though it's highly unlikely that both Czechoslovakia and Slovakia could exist at the same time it's still a game about changing history rather than everything being historically accurate after the game starts and you start messing with the world. A strange discussion I guess.

Could be Bohemia-Moravia the same way we have Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Czech republic contains 3 regions Bohemia, Moravia and part of Silesia.

I agree, that Czechoslovakia and Slovakia is really weird and doesnt make sence, but i hate that disgusting name Czechia. It sounds like a cheap prostitute. People will mess this up with Chechnya.
