Just started with DH and I notice in my (German) ship construction screen there is a ship called 'Experimental light carrier (CVE-3)'. It looks like an old model and has no CAG (?) but it has an astonishing sea detection (SD) ability. I looked for more details in the manual and online but as usual (I've been playing hoi2 for years) the documentation is non-existent, so like most of the hoi2 stable the unit and its abilities is a complete mystery. Still wondering why nobody is talking about this since the SD is 10 and the next best, the DD, is a mere 3. Anybody out there with a hint?

I've never built one or used any of them. IIRC, they're only used for ASW purposes, hence their high SD. They don't have an air wing attachment so it's understood the air wing is built into the unit. To be honest, if I inherit one at the start of a campaign, or if one is already under construction, I just disband it. I'd rather let DDs handle ASW.

To add my single cent: They were meant as a counter to subs ingame. You can use them as normal CV's but they underperform in that role. Vs subs + DD's they rock.
On the contrary, there is excellent documentation but sadly a bit scattered:
