Is there a way to put your own music files into the game? When I played Sim City 4 I had a whole bunch of custom music playing alongside the game's soundtrack (which was one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time, and I still hum them when I work), and it helped make the game less repetitive.
Also, I've been realizing that we don't know much about the music of this game. I guess it's not as significant as the gameplay itself, but it'll be cool if we get a little taste of the soundtrack before it's released.

Great idea!

Even better: Have different categories of music to play at different sizes of the city as it grows.

Certain songs would be available all the time, but as the city got larger, you could have the option of having population ranges in which certain music would play (Like the original SNES version of Sim City Did).

So, not a different folder, but you could just set the population range(s) the song would play at.. for a little extra dimension.
You could start out with kind of banjo/Bucolic music.. Then, things pick up a bit, some jazz, uptempo New York Swing types... Harder Disco inferno.. Electronic Music.. Futuristic Trance.. etc.. as the city gets larger and larger.

Well you could mute the game music and put your own and play it on Itunes or something?

It will mute all in-game sounds , traffic, birds , factories etc :) you don't want that.

I am not a big fan of custom tracks , I am pretty sure I will love the in-game tracks (they are motivational).

Game sounds =/= music.

In 99,99% of games you can mute the music but continue with the game sounds, most of times i do that.

As Amiths says, you can mute music in most games, while still being able to listen to gamesounds. This is how I've set up both SC and CIM. Not because the in-game music aren't good(indeed they are), but because I easily grow tired of the same tracks if I listen to them too much, so instead I listen to some jazz/jazzrock playlists on Spotify or Wimp (every scandinavian know what these are)...

Oh, and the XL music was depressive... but that is off-topic! :)

Trainfever has an inbuilt "mp3" player so you just put your favorite songs in the music directory and you can play them alongside your ingame songs, which were really great ... but that is off-topic! :)
