Hi everyone,

I created a titular empire for my little feudal dictatorship by copying the format of the Latin Empire and giving it the colour values of the Kingdom of England (202 26 26) and (255 255 255).

I decided I wanted something a little bolder, more vibrant, and so I edited landed_titles.txt to change the colours of my titular empire to (205 12 7) and (255 223 0) which were the colour values for Rome in EU:R.

This hasn't made any change to the map colour of my empire. It may have changed the border colour, but I note that the colours of the border (green, white, and reddish pink) match the main colours in a new flag file I just finished working on today.

Could anyone enlighten me as to where I'm going wrong?

second value don't anything.

on first value, the change you made is too minor to be apparent. you need to change at least one or two by +20 or -20 to have it changing a bit.
(202 26 26) here you can try (182 6 46).
I don't know what colour you want but here are some :
pure red is 255 0 0
pure green is 0 255 0
pure blue is 0 0 255
pure yellow is 255 255 0

best way to preview is using an image editor where you can choose color by RGB code.

Even set to pure red, it really just seems to be a slightly brighter shade of pink. I guess that's just inherent to the engine?

It's definately not the colour I would normally associat with that RGB value.

pure color are already basically really bright. + filters it is worse. try something around (170 40 40) for red.

The filters, overlays and so on will influence the colour, obviously.

I guess I just don't understand how this all comes together in this engine. Is it possible to have a strong, semi-bright red? I've tried the 170 40 40 mix and it's still lacking a lot in saturation and intensity.

I don't need it to be as saturated as the colours in EU:Rome, but so far my experimentation suggests that most primary colours are going to be muted or pastel, excepting pure Magenta which is capable of fring the retinas out of my eyes.

it also depends on the brightness/quality of your screen.

I can't advise you anything else than testing different combinations. 255 0 0 will be the brightest red, adding some green will tend to make yellow-ish, adding some blue will make less bright but less intense.

What I'd love is to have my empire's map colour match the background field in the County arms of Rome. That's a dark, rich red - quite close to the background colour in the CK2 forums, actually.

255 0 0 gives me a slightly brighter, pinker version of England's map colour.

113 0 0 (the value of Sanguine in the Coat of Arms index file) is quite close to Poland's map colour, maybe a bit deeper but it's actually getting into brown territory.

201 43 43 (the value of Gules in the coat of arms index file) is near enough to england's default colour as to be almost indistinguishable.

It looks like there some processing going on that won't let me have a strong shade of red as my map colour. I'll keep experimenting for a bit and then just pick something I can live with.

Ah hah! I did a little test in GIMP (photoshop's too rich for my blood), and I tried the 201 43 43 RGB values, desaturated to about 50% (give or take). It yielded something very very close (if not identical) to what I'm seeing on the map in game.

However, when I desaturate Magenta (255 0 255), I can't reproduce the shade of magenta seen on the map in game, so there must be something else afoot...

Is that something I can define in the text files, or are you talking about changing my monitor settings?

I spoke about your testings in Gimp, like you played with saturation.

You have no reason to modify your monitor settings if others graphics are good.

Gotcha. I'm not really bothered with trying to determine the nature of the engine's treatment if there's no direct way to counteract it. I've found that values 190 0 33 produce a reasonably tollerable colour, so I think I'll stick with that unless there's other commands or settings I can attempt.

unless you have some knowledge is graphic programming and want to search through those code files, you might stick to basic RGB codes.
