Okay, it's something that has basics on the workshop already, but I'd like to put in a suggestion. I also had a further idea that could expand the idea further.

The Base concept:
Well it's pretty obvious isn't it? The idea is custom car parks. This part comes in three parts;
  • Car park area: like park area, industry area or campus area the Car Park Area would be a paintable area to be placed in an area, we can then use that to set how much money you have to spend to park there, or if it will be free.
  • Car park road(s): a simple 1 lane, 1 way road with no parking and no detail, just a strip of concrete that can be used to lay the groundwork for the car park. Preferably the color should match the pavement for below. possibly also have a 2 way version.
  • Parking Bay: The part where cars actually park. 1 cell deep with 4 options for width, 1 cell, 2 cell, 3 cell and 4 cell. Now an important part of the idea is that when you place parking bay they have zoning, meaning for example that you could put commercial zoning behind the parking.
Also you could set policies like guards (reduce crime), cleaning (reduce garbage pile up) etc.
Advanced idea:
Obviously open car parks are not the only kind of parking we see in cities. A more complex idea, that would probably not be feasible, is to have it that we could layer elevated car park roads over each other and attach parking bays to elevated roads, thus expanding the walls to make multi story car parks, or perhaps attach parking bays to tunnels, to make underground parking structures.
Like I said it could be interesting but it could also be too complex, at least for the base game, some of the stuff people have done on the workshop they may be able to make it work.

That‘s great! I had also an idea like that! My idea:“ a building like a fire department. You can place it anywhere where is a road. A parking garage with 4 storeys. Like in the Industrial DLC the warehouse with different kinds of size. The small one could only take 10 cell in width and 3 or 5 cells in length. For a city with high density of population, it could be higher then 4 storeys. The large one a quadrangle with 7 storeys. I mean paradox could controll the size but to reduce the cars on the streets and to clear the traffic.

Meh, I'm not interested in parking lot painting. I'd rather just slap down an asset. Ideally, it would be dynamic in some way, like placing a car park somewhere will encourage people to drive to that destination more than taking public transit. Give me some cost-benefit to play with.

Here was my post, once upon a time:

A couple of small parking lots, and a few garages would make me happy. I used a few nice garages from the workshop a few years ago.

If we are going to go in-depth with parking (either dynamic of fixed-asset) we will also need an information overlay that shows parking demand, so we can attempt to meet it without having to play guessing games.

I would also love to see commercial/office buildings come with their own parking structures, but these would come at the cost of building effectiveness (less jobs/goods for buildings with integrated parking structures). If there is a lot of parking demand for an area these buildings would have a higher chance of spawning, but if you provide city parking you will have a higher chance to spawn a more effective building for that zone type.

I don't really want to see demand. I don't want to have to meet some quantity level. I don't want to have to have "coverage" for every area.

I just want to plop a few where I want them, because I think it looks right somewhere, and see the cims use them. And not complain where they are not used.

The workshop ones actually work pretty good for that. But this poor laptop is stressed enough without that addiction (workshop... just one more, you know you want to) coming back! ;)

I have never missed parking lots in C:S but they might become interesting if you consider them as a "car-pedestrian-hub". Game mechanics should be in away that cims park their cars here instead of driving to their goal. This could be nicely combined with car-free districts and pedestrian-only roads.

Car parks should act like parks in my opinion, boost happiness in a radius around them for commercial, office and industry as a land value increase but shouldn’t be seen as an essential service. They could also tie in with public transport as a form of Park-and-Ride to make Cims more likely to use PT in a radius around the car park. IIRC this was a feature in SC4 with the Parking Garage introduces in Rush Hour DLC.

Something like zoning, but it's for where people can park. And you're able to charge for parking (parking fees), that'll help make money for the city.

To be honest, I've been after something like that, a couple of parking garages and a few different sized parking lots in-game for the Xbox version, since I'm tired of seeing people parking on nearly every road.
