Hi everyone

Just wanted to start a new session ck2 after some time.
I read that after holy fury the game had some troubles with characters that die too often in battles, ai marrying lowborns and so on.

I wanted to know how the current state of the game is. Should I play it on the latest version or better rollback to the version before holy fury?:)

Best regards

It's some time since I last played, but I have had a few games few Holy Fury and I think it's absolutely fun and fine. Sure, it can be annoying when your characters go about dying in battle, but I have also had rulers live to old age, despite being involved in more than a few battles (and not being part of a Warrior Lodge). Go try out Holy Fury, would be my recommendation. :)

In my experience (I don't have Holy Fury yet), the game plays mostly fine, but you should be careful with the following issues:

• Rulers dying in battle like you mention. Apparently having high Martial and good traits decrease the chance, but in my experience leading your troops is a sure way to die sooner or later.
• If you make your wife pregnant but you die before the baby is born, he or she will NOT take your dynasty. This is a known bug and there's nothing we can at the moment (except maybe using control commands).
• (There's more stuff but I can't remember right know because I haven't played in a few weeks.)

With numbers of things that protect you from it like pets and artifacts battlefield death isn't an issue, at least for player.
Vassals still marry ugly syphilitic mangled wenches all the time, but it was before HF that way too.

Do you happen to know exactly what decreases battle death chances? Is there a thread where this has been discussed? I really want to know because it drives me crazy.

Join Warrior Lodge and your Nakama will protect you during battle if they are there, besides you being badass yourself. Cats, dogs, and horses (don't know about bears and dragons) will protect you at the cost of their life, but again if you're a warrior you can protect them instead. You can also bribe enemy with artifacts.
Basically, you really shouldn't lead troops yourself without being in a lodge or having tier 3 artifacts.

Pfft I've been playing in Africa almost exclusively since HF hit (mostly Kanem, sometimes Mandig), and it's great, I daresay ez mode especially if the ummayads and abbasids implode, which they seem to do in 95+% of my games. The only big annoyance is that it seems really difficult to get the Alexander Bloodline event to fire.

It's impossible to get the alexander bloodline if your capital is not in europe, asia minor, jerusalem or arabia regions.

Yeah I normally make the county of Aden my capital (I've also switched to a county in Ireland and Rome). I think, across all saves, I've had about 15+ emperor's with 15+k prestige and I've only gotten the event twice. Last time I wasn't on ironman so after the 5th I just consoled it.

That's interesting. Since HF came out, it seems to be like the big Muslim states implode less than they used to. I almost never see the Umayyads break up anymore.

Only reason I had my final character on my last game lead troops was because she was taking part in a Crusade and the last character I did that with, he got accused of lack of piety for not being present even though he sent troops (and donated to one of the holy orders). Wasn't going to let that happen again.

There are some bugs, but overall the latest patch is the best the game has ever been. Even if you don't have the Holy Fury DLC you still benefit from the map changes, new cultures, reworked crusades, tribal retinues, and improved character interface.

Rulers dying in battle has always been a risk, so that hasn't really changed. But at least now you get a small morale bonus for personally leading your troops.

just jumped back into CK2 after not playing for a year and a half. got holy fury.

- the Byzantine succession law is SUCH AN ANNOYANCE that I quit after several hours. i hate hate hate elective to begin with, and this forces me to play that way. i hate it. there needs to be some way to reform this. i don't mind if it's difficult to carry out, but the option should be there.
- tried the whole conversion to Hellenism + secret cult thing. it is an absolute pain getting people converted, even after I read up on which characteristics and actions to go for.
- i forgot how annoying the plagues and diseases were. it's like a constant.

a bit disappointed really. i enjoyed Jade Dragon a lot but it's hard for me to enjoy the add-ons in Holy Fury.

There is a way to get rid of Imperial Elective succession, but it's convoluted. You have to get your hands on a second empire, make that primary, destroy the Byzantine/Roman empire, and then re-create the Byzantine/Roman empire. That'll make you feudal with presumably Gavelkind succession, but you can switch to Primogeniture normally after 10 years.

I agree, even though in the ERE the Senate and Military did elect their Emperors. They were almost always more inclined to elect those in the bloodline. And only ever strayed when the Emperor hadn't chosen a clear successor, when the heir was a fool/weak/cowardly, etc. And if there was someone much better. Like a commander who earned a reputation and sometimes a very rich noble could also sway the military and senate to elect him.

Personally I think they need to redo Byzantine Government (again) but add some Senate positions, functionality, and events.

I think succession should mostly stay heraldry. But there still needs to be a good possibility of Civil War because it just wouldn't be very Roman without their constant civil wars and political intrigue
