As I posted in the other thread, does anyone else think most of the Russian men -- with the soft features, ears, and golden headbands -- look like Tolkien elves?
these faces don't convince me. i'd only add new clothes but had mantained the same faces as the europeans. these ones seem unfinished from the screenshots
No offence, but these faces look ridiculous. Like carved in stone, woman and men look like after changing their gender.
They look better in game.
Not quite. The problem with male faces in the Russian DLC is that once you hit the age 30 transition they seem to, based on their facial wrinkles, etc, leap to the age 50 transition in comparison to the Western faces. Part of the problem is that most Russian males lose all appearance of youthful vigor once they hit 30. I bought it, I'll always play with it, but I'm disappointed in this DLC.
One can always mod the Russians to only use the new clothing and hairstyles and leave the faces out of it.
What, you thought they'd forget to account for the alcohol consumption?
Now if only the Brits would go bald by their mid 20s.
While that change is a bit jarring, I thought the artists did really well with the wrinkles on the Russian men and women - perhaps a bit too well, and perhaps they should have toned it down for the middle aged portraits.
One thing I found very annoying about the Russian portrait dlc is that they STILL did not give bishops proper garments!
1. They should not be wearing that bishop's crown, that was a more recent innovation in style which started in the late 15th century after the fall of Constantinople. It is also ONLY USED DURING LITURGY. Seeing as you would never be doing diplomatic relations with a bishop while he is performing liturgy, there is no reason you would ever see him in that crown.
2. By not changing the mitre to a proper one, they missed a great opportunity to give the Russians much more flavour, as their bishops had a more unique style of headdress for the bishops. Here are some pictures of garments used during the time of this game in Russia:

3. Almost all Russian men had beards. Shaving was seen as sinful. All bishops in Russia at this time had beards as well. I hoped that this would add more beards or make bishops have beards, but alas it seems not.

I completely agree. It's not that the art in this DLC is bad, it just seems as if the middle part is missing.
But they did when they were doing diplomatic functions, which is what matters. I do not really see your point. It at least is justifiable for a ruler to have his crown, but it is not justifiable in any way for the orthodox bishops.

Anyway, the argument still stands. It is unhistorical and there is no possible way for a bishop to be wearing it in any other instance than performing liturgy (which is not being done in the portrait) It is a mistake of ignorance that was made which I had hoped would have been fixed with either the Greek portraits dlc or this Russian dlc, yet it has not. So I see no reason to buy it, and instead just keep using the Better Looking Characters mod which has a much more accurate depiction of bishops. Again, a great shame because Russia had some unique clothing for their bishops (so it would not only be historical and realistic, but also more cultural and unique)

@Gunarr: While I understand your reasoning, I want to respectfully disagree. In my opinion, the portraits aren't meant to really be 100% historically accuratein the first place, just as how the game isn't 100% historically acurate. Perhaps better words to use are historically plausible, or historically authentic - it's more important that the general people who might not be aware of the finer details of medieval clothing that it "looks" Russian, rather than it "is" Russian. I believe when the artists were making the portraits, they weren't going to make 100% accurate portraits and research every important detail, just do something with the limited time and resources they had that "felt" right even if it isn't actually "right".

I can see your disappointment - I'm also disappointed with other things as well (such as how the steppe peoples are portrayed as swarthy Indian-looking Muslims when the "best" solution would be to portray them as Mongols, or how the Orthodox clergy aren't programmed to have beards (which, by the way, PI can easily do in a few seconds, as I have done it)), but, well, just wanted to state my thoughts.
