I certainly agree with the tedious comment. However, neither its effectiveness, nor its historical implications can be denied. Countries have profitted from loaning other countries money during times of war. It's a credit to the game's depth that it includes banking among the strategic options available to the player.

I imagine it would take a small amount of code-tweaking on Paradox's part to make loaning less tedious. Any chance we'll see it in the next patch? Will there even be a next patch?

And countries have also suffered by advancing countries loans. Genoa's banking families never really recovered from the various Spanish bankruptcies of the sixteenth century etc.

I actually doubt that I'd make extensive use of this strategy even if the interface was tweaked. But that's just one of my little foibles.

I think the loan system needs to be more integrated with the rest of the game. Right now, it's out there on its own, and it seems like the country making the loans can do so without any fear of default. I loaned about 70D to the Mughal Empire when they were -200 in diplomatic relations. They made interest payments right on schedule and didn't default.

Has anyone had experience with a country defaulting? I think that a country should be able to default on an international loan, but at a cost to either stability and/or diplomatic relations with all other nations, just like regular loans. It seems that debtor countries never default.

I've never had a nation default on me. That's because I make smart loans.

There have been severl reports of Turky and Spain defaulting. However, I've never seen it happen myself so I can neither confirm nor deny.

I've tried the strategy, briefly, once-Spain was eager to take my loans..........and then defaulted! Quite historical, I thought, but I haven't felt it was worth it to put up with the tedium of the loans strategy again.
