I heard someone refer to this mode of play as "Tinman," which I think has a nice ring to it. It's for people that lack the willpower to avoid save scumming but know in their hearts that it's cheating. It's the same way alcoholics get a Breathalyzer installed in their cars and have to pass the test before it will start :).

It's tempting to reload if I lose a crucial fight, or something bizarre happens. It works a lot better for me knowing that there is absolutely no way to back up, even a day, and I'm thankful for it. :D

I read that, but I don't really understand the point of it. Isn't Ironman about farming achievements? If you play Ironman mode but aren't able to obtain achievements, why not just play with it off? It's less hassle and you don't get that horrible constant auto-saving. :confused:

No, the Ironman mode isn't about farming achievement. I believe the term "ironman mode" comes from the X-Com game, in which the achievements happen regardless of the ironman status. When people originally requested for the mode, they weren't asking for a way to get achievements without cheating. They were looking for a way to play their games without cheating more easily.

People really need to learn self-control; just don't cheat, or keep reloading when you feel you've done poorly or been the victim of bad luck. I honestly thought Ironman was added so that achievements could only be gained in a game mode in which it wasn't possible to cheat, and so if you didn't care for achievements then it wasn't really an option you'd consider. I find the restrictions too tedious to allow for a fun game (I like to mod a few things like title history and I use my own culture names file) and the constant auto-saving is horrendous.

Thanks for the clarification, though. Never played X-COM.

It is impossible to cheat in a single-player game.

Can anyone tell me how to get this mod and Campaign Map - Culturally different cities to work together. There are a few changes in the 00_cultures.txt file that need to be added to get the Croatian and Muslim (non-Persian) cities to show up correctly. I looked in this mod's 00_cultures.txt file but the names are different. For example:

		graphical_culture = bohemiangfx

but I need it to say:

	croatian = {
		graphical_culture = southerngfx
It's the same situation for a few other cultures to get the new city graphics to show up. Anyone know the best way to go about this?

Ah sorry, I never play in those areas so I haven't noticed any oddities.

Yeah the city style is different for Muslim and Persian, without editing the 00_cultures.txt file only the Persian cities show up. Also the same for Croatia, wrong cities without the 00_cultures.txt file edit. Although the Croatian ones are not as noticeable as the Muslim/Persian ones. I want to know what happens to this mod if I change a few cultures from graphical_culture = muslimgfx to arabicgfx?

I'm trying to get [Mod] Campaign Map - Culturally different cities to work with this mod and I think I've figured it out! I had to do some editing of the settlements.gfx file and now I've got the correct custom city graphics matching up while using the 00_cultures.txt from this mod. And, yeah the Muslim and Persian cities look different when using [Mod] Campaign Map - Culturally different cities.

Here is the file you need if you are using this with the compatible version of Campaign Map - Culturally different cities.

Seems to be working good and I was extra careful not to screw anything up, baby steps all the way. The only thing I didn't change was to leave Croatia as easterngfx, which is really not a big deal. The work to change it to southerngfx didn't seem worth such a small change, it will use easterngfx like Serbia and the surrounding cultures, so it still looks appropriate. And, I posted over in the CM-CDC thread as well.

If anyone checks it out and discovering anything off or wrong just let me know. Thanks.

There were some character names to update, but really not much else. I just compared them using Winmerge and updated this mod's culture file as needed, not too hard. Attached is the "updated" culture file. Check out the differences, really minor but I went ahead and did them anyway.
