how does it work? As the Kingdom of Italy ive noticed random counties in my realm switching to my culture (German). I would just like to know what the requirements are now and if theres anything I can do to hurry it a long or is it just a random chance my same culture vassals will get a switch event?

I could be wrong but I looked through the patch notes and it doesn't seem to mention any changes to culture spread, if it works like before it's a random event and provinces switch if they have a land connection with the dominate culture, overseas provinces can switch if they are of a different religion.

something has definitely changed... Ive had 6 different non capital provinces with no land border to my main culture swap in under 30 years... I NEVER saw this in 1.06
I think that was in 1.06 as well. A game I was playing as Italy had parts of achea converting to latin occasionally.

Does anybody happen to have the event files handy from 1.06 so that we can compare them to the current ones?

Personal experience:
In my current game practically all of England is Norwegian after ~50 years (it was conquered by Norway obviously, though they split up again after a short while due to elective in Norway). Wheras in a 1.06 game where the same happened only 3 provinces in England were Norwegian at that point.

The settlers event is now working as designed.

Example:

King of Norway invades England. England now has a conquest_culture flag for norwegian kings culture. This allows the kings vassals, who's capital is in de jure England to spread their culture there.

Previously the conquest_culture flag was bugged and you needed to make land de jure before it would convert with settlers.

FOR MODDERS:
- Fixed a bug in the 'conquest_culture' trigger

So yes it was in the documentation, it was just hidden. ;)

This should not be possible with the 1.06b system. With the old system, you could only switch English provinces to Norwegian after 50 years from the conquest if: a) you placed your capital in England (as the King of Norway), b) you gave de jure Norwegian duchies to Norwegian nobles only holding counties in England (settlers' event). Otherwise, you had to make England de jure drift to Norway and wait the settlers' event to function properly (spreading the culture in Norwegian vassals' capital counties).

Are you SURE this is the case?

If things changed, it can also be without they changed the file, just by correcting the script interpretation of conquest_culture as it appears in the cultural spread file (we need to check whether the file has changed since 1.06b, I can't at the moment). This may explain why there is no mention of this in the patch notes.

We should I guess repeat the battery of tests we performed when 1.06b came out in order to understand how the mechanism now works.

Ok this changes matters, I'm so happy about it. I have to ask you one thing, Dracko: suppose I conquer England as Wales, and I destroy the title k_england; so to let de jure drift of England into Wales start. Does it mess up the conquest_culture flag so that I won't receive the settlers' event?

You pressed a claim on England, then destroyed the title? Nothing else was pressed? Or was it an invasion?

After a quick test, no the de jure kingdom is the only title that gets the flag. If you destroy the kingdom, you destroy the flag - and are forced to wait for de jure drift/normal culture spread.

I reserve the right to change my mind. :)

In other words I found something else that means you can get the spread...more testing required...

THANKS A LOT for the test. I only expected an informed opinion.

This is, in all honesty, quite of a pity. So basically, if I want to have a whole de jure Welsh Britain, I can only rely on normal spread or the 1.06b or rather wait for de jure drift in order to make it happen.

I still need my primary title to be of the target spreading culture in landed_titles.txt, right?

Ok i'll be waiting for the results then.

My previous test was silly and should be ignored as I never conquered any territory and forced the win.

New test results in.

When you capture a title, that title receives a conquest flag. When you create a title (duchy and above), this creates a conquest flag to that title.

When you invade you recieve all holdings you occupy when the peace is signed, all these titles are then considered conquered and will be flagged.

The settlers event requires only that one of the titles is conquest flagged, so yes destroy that kingdom title, and make sure you capture all primary holdings in the invasion. :)

A and B both happened. Capital in England tends to happen in the few cases where I see Norway taking England due to the different succession laws splitting the kingdoms up again fairly swiftly leaving a Norwegian on the throne in England with no land in Norway.

It's funny how we are reduced to guesswork and empiric tales of happenstance because once again culture spread is a mostly random event. If there was a defined deterministic progress toward culture change, everybody would be better off.
