Hello. I would like if a province changed converted to your own culture if they have been part of your country for X years. An idea would be in the region of 200 years or so, and can have several factors:
  • It needs to either border, or be X provinces close to a core province with your primary culture
  • This could be aided if the province is very little developed, and could even make provinces further than X convert culture
  • If the culture is accepted, tolerated or not accepted will influence this.
  • Nationalism in the province
  • General level of revolt risk/unstability in the province
  • If the country which is the culture's "mother-country" exists, and its distance from province
  • Stability and prestige
  • Prior culture
This would make it possible for provinces which have a primary culture nation that is a Great Power (Ottomans, France, Spain) to be converted. Say you are the Netherlands, and you cant convert an Austrian province, or an Italian nation with a Castillian Sicily. This will make this possible to happen by itself. Also makes it possible for provinces like the Gothic Theodoro, or other provinces like Silesia, to be converted without a massive diplomatic cost, after it has been part of your empire for like 200 years.

What do you guys think? It will add a cool new dynamic to the culture game

EDIT:

Important feature would be that provinces that border an accepted culture, has a 50% chance to convert to that, due to proximity. One can imagine how this would be the case. Say Genoa has Pontic as accepted, Theodoro may then be autoconverted to Pontic, instead of Ligurian, due to bordering Pontic. Obviously after a long time under your control as stated, so it doesnt feel easy, but more of a bonus and visual benefit of keeping your empire together and intact for a long while

This can also make culture conversion 50%(?) cheaper if it borders an accepted culture that is NOT your primary :) It will then sort of work as if you do a mix of move people from the neighbouring accepted culture province

I'm afraid Your idea could cause diverse countires like Ming, the Ottomans or the Commonwealth to turn into a single-cultural blob. Of course, smaller cultures were usually assimilated by the larger ones, but your solution doesn't really portray that. There's a similar system in CK2, if you start in Charlemagne, the game often ends with whole France, Germany and Italy with German culture.

Hmm. A modifier could also be the size of the cultures.

As for Ming and the Commonwealth, I believe that the spread of the Han Chinese, for example can be portrayed in this, considering this would be a microscopic process in many regards. Im saying it needs to have a long, long time before it happens, thats why I said 200 years. If 2-5 provinces then change it would not culture blob. My hopes is that this could sort of aid Russia in making the Steppes to the south Russian. The Ottomans, if im not mistaken, has some sort of modifier that makes them accept cultures easier. This could be changed so that it greatly reduces the chance of this happening, so that we don't get a Turkish Cairo for example.

I also hope this can simulate the Sudeten Germans
