So I'm playing as the byzantines and I've spent a lot of time and money to build up my culture cataphract buildings. When I inherited the kingdom of Croatia with a Croatian heir I found that all my byzantine buildings where gone, and I only had the option of building what I assume are the Croatian buildings. Was this intended? I don't think we should be losing culture buildings just because the guy on the throne is a different culture group.

I had the same experience as a Norman king of England. Buildings magically vanish.

I'd say that the buildings should be based on the county culture, not the ruler. Seems like a simple, obvious fix.

I had this happen too, but before latest update. I set (as Bohemia) Premyslid pretender on Bavarian throne but he was German and as my ruler died he inherited Bohemia and at that point all the hussar buildings were gone... which was quite annoying.

It's super annoying when your Castillian king has an Andalusian heir. Mostly because Andalusians get camels for no freaking reason. They should have the exact same culture building as the Spanish, as both sides fought with the same units and tactics back then.

One way to solve it would be I think would be to assign each Title a type of cultural building that way if say a Croatian takes the ERE throne he still builds the Cataphract grounds because his they're linked to his primary title of Emperor. This system wouldn't be perfect either for example a Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem should probably have different units then a Muslim one but I think it would cut down on people losing all their buildings when their heir is a different culture. Another possible solution is, if instead of destroying all your hard work they simply switched the cultural building to the new type.

I think the best way to solve the issue is to make it county culture based like Syren Culture Buildings mod. It makes alot more sense realistically. Basically, culture buildings will only be destroyed if a different culture takes over the county.

It has been suggested quite a few times to make cultural buildings dependent on province culture instead of ruler culture to prevent mass building extinctions, but alas, not such luck yet.

Back when we were using patch 1.05g this issue was addressed in CK2Plus, I thought it was fixed for vanilla long ago...

Culture-specific buildings will no longer be destroyed unless the culture of the province changes, although you will still be unable to build them unless you are of the appropriate culture.

I doubt paradox chose to let it remain the way it was because they thought it was a good solution, they must have missed the problem.

It was allways this way, culture building based on rules culture. All religious buildings in holdings based on rules religion (Get bishop of other religion - all builidng destroyed.).

I believe it was allways intended this way, so you can not inherite multiply culture building and have to stick to one culture for your rulers.

I understand it's probably to prevent overpowered counties and you from educating your kid with a random foreign npc for stacking buildings. But I feel once the building is built it should stay barring some event where the people completely hated the former culture and razed all traces of their occupancy.(and i guess also some events to abuse and subjugate native cultures as an occupying force.)

If in reality I was King of France and and somehow conquered England there is NO WAY I wouldn't introduce the use of the English Longbow into my army.

edit: A few thoughts. Maybe when you build the new cultural building it gives an event with options tied to traits and tech like:

Has Just: "Your "culture troops" have shown honor through the new land blah blah" +10-20%? to culture conversion rate, ability to have both culture buildings

Has Wroth "Your 'whatevers' have cut a path of pillaging and worse through 'conquered province' sowing distrust in the 'occupied culture'." +10% revolt rate and All culture buildings besides own no longer optional and every level of your building level adds to the revolt rate as well.

Has 3+ stars in cultural flexibility "Your people's ability to commune with other cultures has formed a bond blah blah" benefits similar to just. and allows both buildings.

just some thoughts.

Culture is dependant on your culture. If you were an English lord you would build Longbow ranges, to ensure your vassals and courtier had a place to practice their longbow skills and to help with bridging any cultural differences. If you were French, you would build Knights lists so your vassals and courtiers could practice their jousting and general knightly skills.

Cultural buildings should not be restricted to anything but the ruler of the land. They should also give a small boost to cultural conversion in provinces with them built.

Instead of destroying them, why don't they just switch to the respective cultural building magically? In this chaos world we are expecting lands to change hands(alot), especially holy war borders.

Because a knights list is not a longbow range. If you conquer a new land with a different culture you destroy their cultural buildings and build your own.

What if you inherit it from your vassal accidentally and you don't want to govern it? You won't burn it to the ground before handing it back right?

Why would you have vassals of differing cultures?

Wouldn't you give the title to someone of your culture, rather to someone of a different culture?

The game mechanics use the principle of not me, then I don't want it. This is the case across the board.

The AI will always ensure its vassals are of its culture and ensure its culture spreads. There is no functionality to destroy buildings within holdings. If the buildings remained and the AI kept a cultural building it did not want it is stuck. The player is one entity within the game world, the mechanic is for the betterment of the overall mechanics. Paradox does not hate players, they have to ensure everyone is on equal footing.

Now if you wanted to suggest adding a functionality to destroy buildings within holdings, that is a different subject.

Who in their right mind would burn a building to the ground just because it didn't suit his cultural preference? So a newly crowned king who comes from a long line of English kings and happens to be French would immediately go out burning the longbow ranges painstakingly built by his predecessors? So then when he dies, and his son who is English inherits, he'll then burn down whatever the father made?

The cultural buildings are supposed to represent a cultural phenomenon not the fashion of the current ruler. Longbowmen were trained from childhood and the whole culture surrounding it took a long time to develop, it shouldn't disappear without a tangible reason.

It seems logical that a ruler can only build cultural buildings of his own culture, in provinces sharing his culture, which won't get destroyed because of a momentary change in ruler culture. Only if the county itself changes culture should they be removed.
