Hi.

While going through alot of research materieals earlier this week, i thought. Why not share some of them with you, especially my two favorite painters..

Both are 19-20th painters, so outside the scope of EU, even if some paintings depict the era.

First of all ..

And of course.. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilya_Repin. . Who here does not love his painting of The Reply of the Zaporozhian host?

Repin is definitely one of the best painters in history in my opinion. His works are like photographs, so realistic.

Certainly fitting for the EU-Franchise. Not my cup of tea though, but there is still a difference experiencing the work in real life compared to watching them on a screen.

I visited the Ajvazovskij Museum in Feodosia last year - it was a great experience.

I've always loved the "Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan" painting, just something so haunting about the eyes.

Me too. There is a feeling of despair in those eyes, almost like if he was himself responsible for the death. And a streak of lunacy too, which may confirm the deed.

Also like the 'Galata' painting by Aivazovsky.

But this is my all-time favourite, a combination of peace, tranquility, yet something very dramatic about that boat and the island... What takes place on that island?:

Ah, a fellow fan of Repin and Aivazovsky! Russian painters of that era were definitely fantastic, the best in the world. I like these kinds of posts; hope to see more!

I'd never heard of Aivazovsky, he's incredible. Turner is considered a master of light and landscape but these blow him away. IMHO

Turner and Aivazovsky aren't really comparable in terms of art, totally different styles, eras, etc etc.

You see: the artist managed to convey that to an ignorant observer!
