Hi, can anyone please explain me how does the cultural building bonus work? For example, I if I build the italian one, pikemen get +10% attack. Does it affect all pikemen in my realm (retinues?) or only pikemen recruited in that province, or pikemen staying in that province, no matter where they were recruited?

+another question: I'm the vassal of the HRE, how do I check what laws they have in effect? The laws panel only shows CA and investiture, I can't check the feudal tax level. Also, any easy way to check the heirs of title? If I hover over the coat of arms, it shows the heir and pretenders, but can't click on the names, have to find them manually. Thanks.

I think the cultural retinues have built-in bonuses over a standard levy unit and your culture (at least in the English case) have cultural tactics like Massive Longbow Volley that play off of the retinue unit.

Better tactics? maybe...

What's good is getting access to retinues like Heavy Infantry and Heavy Cav and assigning them the commanders with the corresponding leadership traits.

Each cultural retinue unit has a total of +60% bonus to Morale, Offensive and Defensive, split over the troop types making up the unit. This corresponds to the highest level of the cultural building.

The retinues also have specialised tactics that are FAR better than for any other unit. For instance, the slow advance of pikes, when placed in the centre column can have some ridicolous results. Or the Longbow volley. Or as I recently discovered, the Berserker charge of the Huscarl units. That was just absurd to watch.

Using these units together with proper leaders can be utterly devastating to the enemy.

None of the cultural retinues are bad, though some are better than others. And I'd claim that they're (almost) always better than the non-cultural units. There are several threads discussion the numbers of this, and giving more info than I'm prepared to rewrite. Search and you shall find.
