Can non-state cultures convert into accepted ones? I've frequently had people immigrate to my nation at the beginning of my game and they have still retained their original one by the end of the game. Are there any events or game mechanics that change it?

Im asking because I've read that non-state culture pop arn't as efficient in factories or RGO's. I need more money!

Pardon me if this has been asked before.

Non-state cultures tend to stay that way. Assimilation wasn't a very popular concept in the 19th century, and most minorities (Schleswig-Holstein, Alsace-Lorraine, the minor Austrian dominions, etc) kept their identities over time.

The only culture in the game that assimilates is, really, the only one in the time period that did--Yakees. POPs of foreign cultures in the USA eventually become Yankee culture.

Ahhh thank you. That would explain how all those mexicans turned into Yankee's. I may have to give the USA a go next game.

Isn't assimilation also present in South America? I am playing a game as Ecuador now and all those Spanish and Catalan farmers coming to Quito quickly become North Andean.

Or is that because they merged with the North Andean farmers already present there?
But that doesn't explain my North Andean craftsmen. Who used to be Spanish craftsmen.

I've never played as a South American country, so I can't say, but it isn't out of the question. Someone who knows will come along soon enough.

But just one question--you're playing with the latest patch right? In at least one of the earlier ones, Latin American countries had 'Spanish' culture, so Spanish POPs coming over could have merged. That isn't possible anymore.

Playing Russia I have one claim, Tomsk (or is it Omsk) never mind, in Siberia that I hven't been able to make into a state since it got to 49% Russian orthodox before being overun by hordes of chinese immigrants, diluting the Russians to 19.8% for the past 30 years. I keep enlisting the Chinese and ship them off to die in African wars or the frozen wastes of Alaska, but more keep coming.....

Same thing happened to Alaska, which is pretty much ethnically chinese and siberian. Funnily enough I had one French claim in the Sahara which converted to Russian and got statehood only 2-3 years after I grabbed the place from under the heel of the FFL.

Any ideas ?????

I know that state; it's troublesome for me too. But, honestly, I think you're out of luck. You could try etting yourunemployed laborers and farmers from the rest of Russia migrate in by leaving open RGOs for them, but it might attract more Chinese immigrants, too.

I gave up trying to figure out population migrations when I found Byelorussians in Africa and half of southern Italy becoming Russian. I'm not talking having a Russian minority, I'm saying that southern Italy had a Russian majority! Things must have really been bad back home. But the U.S. generally gets rapid assimilation unless from what I've seen the immigrants come in in a large enough pop size. I've got a pop of 18,000 some Russian farmers in New York and on Midway I don't know why but I always get around 7,000 South German soldiers who can be recruited as Native quality for some strange reason.

Latest patch. Pops in Ecuador are North Andean, Gujjaroe (or sumfink like that) and Andean. Primary culture of Ecuador is North Andean.

Is cultural assimilation dependend on the amount of national culture pops already present in a province?
In the east of Ecuador there are 3 states that have Guijaroe as primary culture, will any immigrants there be assimilated into Guiiaroe or into North Andean? I got 3 200 sized North Andean craftsmen in those provinces, but i don't know if they migrated from the Quito state or if they migrated from Spain.

I DO seem to only atract pops with Catalan/Spanish/Basque culture and no other cultures, save for a Japanese craftsman i got early in the game, do cultures have a favoured desitnation to migrate to?

One very interesting thing I have seen is this:

The United States can to some degree change POPs in regions outside the United States to Yankee. This is very helpful and interesting. After the United Kingdom declared war suddenly I annexed large portions of Canada and now around 55.7 or so % of the population in Ontario has become Yankee. I am trying to turn parts of Europe and Venezula into Yankees now also (started with Belgium) however this hasn't really worked nearly as well as what happened in Canada (usually only about 1-1.7% of the population are Yankees outside of North America). It might be possible to encourage the process by POP merging. It seems the larger the percent of the population that becomes Yankee the faster the process. Does not seem to work at all in Africa.

It seems that only some PoPs can become Yankee. For example native American Indian tribes do not seem to become Yankee. One British PoP in Oregon refuses to change also.

Note: If you get Alaska as the U.S. hordes and hordes of immigrants come pouring into that region (much more than California). Sometimes each province of Alaska has around 400,000 people by the 1870s.
