In the CUE campaign press-room, before the background of a single block of deep blue, Oliver Strasse, jaw-firm and blond hair pressed elegantly across his forehead, kicked off the party campaign with a direct message to the voters of Eutopia;

I have a message. A message to deliver to the Eutopian people. I don't care if you're from the North. I don't care if you're an Anglo. I don't care if you're sitting across the border in St. Esprit, or Tilapia. You are all Eutopians and I want you to listen!

I am not proud of the CUE's achievements last term. I will be the first person to admit that for a great many reasons mostly out of our control, we failed in our mission. But we have reformed. We have a new message and we are not willing once again to lay down on our backs while the apparatchiks in the ESA turn our country into a Soviet-style dependancy state and the chit-chatters in the UMP twitter about all their ill-conceived ideas, when what we need is action, not talk. The CUE truly is the party of the hardworking Eutopian fed up with high taxes and government regulation; the party of the family that sees little opportunity in our current education system for its children and wants a tougher stance on hooligans and common thuggery; the party of the pensioner, who has seen our country riven apart by conflict and our traditions flaunted in the name of change for changes sake; and the party of the young person, who wants to be free to walk on the streets in the evenings without concern, achieve a good university education, and see Eutopia's cross-cultural communities restored for the benefit of all.

In the next few days we will be releasing our manifesto - to show you all exactly what we intend to do if you lodge your vote with us. Our watchwords of Patriotism, Freedom, Opportunity, Justice, Community and Morality shall trumpet to the nation what we stand for.

I am Oliver Strasse, CUE candidate for the General Assembly. Thankyou.

"People of Eutopia, I come before you tonight as a newcomer to the Eutopian political scene. But I am not a newcomer to Eutopia. I spent many years here during my childhood. Those are fond memories, of a time gone by, when the world was more at peace than it is today. Perhaps that was only a facade, but to me it seemed to be a time of prosperity and goodwill for all. Yet the Eutopian nation, the Eutopian island, and the Eutopian people have undergone hard times since then. My last summer here was spent watching the island be torn apart by dissidents and civil strife. It is my goal to reunite this island and its people. That is why I stand before you, asking for your support for a Forbes presidency and a CUE influence in the General Assembly! The Eutopian people have suffered long enough. We must enter talks with Tilapia and St. Esprit and hopefully convince them to seriously consider complete or partial re-unification. The beautiful, whole, vibrant Eutopia of times past must be revived for the sake of the next generation."

In this second speech of his election tour, Strasse had made the journey north to New Lancaster City to make a speech on the first pillar of CUE policy - patriotism - in front of a rally in the city centre.

"I am Oliver Strasse, member of the CUE and I passionately believe that we should not cower in the face of the reputation of our nation. I am proud to be Eutopian. I do not need to fly the Russian flag in my offices like that socialist Gonzov. Unlike those pitiful figures on the left, Eutopia is everything to me.

My party, the CUE, wishes to reinforce once and for all the sovereignty of our nation, and the pride that we should all feel towards it. In order that our children should grow up with patriotism in their hearts, I put forward this four-point-plan to demonstrate exactly what we want from the next term.

First we shall push through legislation to make singing the national anthem compulsory in all state-run educational institutions. This is not just a token gesture; by reinforcing the good national values that have made our country strong and instilling in our children the positive features of being a Eutopian citizen, far from encouraging racial division, we will be emphasising national unity. A national unity that is the only legitimate way in which our island can be reunited.

Secondly, we shall enforce the flying of Eutopian flags outside and within all national institutions and make it illegal for ministers to have split loyalties with other nations. This is partly in response to the shocking treatment of our national spirit by Gonzov, who as a member of the ESA publicly displayed the Russian flag adjacent to our own, but also to safeguard our ministries and national positions against the interventions of other states. Being Eutopian is not being a member of a single ethnic group. Being Eutopian is living on the island of Eutopia and believing in the values that we hold dear - like fairplay and tolerance.

Thirdly, we shall push without delay for the reunification of our island. We do not want talk of conflict, for conflict is not the correct way to base any nation state. But we do want to encourage and foster the correct feeling that we are all the same people. We have all suffered and experienced the same problems. We all inhabit the same island. In many ways we all have the same values. Why should we not be unified? Our programme involves not only the extension of economic activity with St. Esprit and Tilapia, but also the creation of closer political bonds. In this vein, we shall be exerting the largest possible pressure on Tilapia to allow a referendum on New Bengal's reunification in our nation.

Last of all, we believe that citizenship classes should be compulsory in every state-owned school from the earliest days of a child's education, to the age of 16. In these lessons, children should be instructed in our political system - whatever that might evolve to become - instructed in our national values and cultures, instructed in our national history, and finally instructed in the ways of tolerance and fair-play in dealings with other Eutopians.

Patriotism is not nationalism. Do not let the embarassed figures of the left confuse you. We do not aim to promote the values and culture of one particular race, for of course we are all equal in the eyes of the Lord, but we do aim to promote the values and culture of Eutopia. That is not something we are ashamed of."

Strasse later in the day moved across town to the centre of a small suburban area just north of New Lancaster City. Followed by the usual press corps and CUE minders, he made an impromptu speech on the steps of the town hall.

"The ESA doesn't want us to work!"

His eyes blazed with a passion not unlike outrage.

"In Presiden't Josephus' most recent speech at a rally organised by the ECL, he candidly said, 'I'd like to promise you a four hour work day and full pay to each and everyone of you'. We at the CUE do not take issue with full pay. Full pay is a prime incentive for worker productivity and industrial efficiency. But a four-hour day?!"

Strasse punched the last three words into his open palm.

"What country does the President think we are living in? Where in any of the successful dynamic economies of the world does the President find a four-hour day? Nowhere! The four-hour day is talked of with fear throughout the western world and rightly so. Not because big business, the chubby hand of Joe Capitalism is worried that he'll have to pay his workers more. But because all business, from the small shopkeeper, to the large department store, from the car mechanic's workshop to the shipyard, indeed anyone who employs staff, will struggle to make ends meet. These businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, and the President wants to suck them dry!

The worker himself does not want to work four-hours himself! Ask any man or woman - they want to be earning their money honestly. They want to feel the satisfaction of having worked a good eight hour day. The husband wants to have provided the meal that his wife puts on the table each night. The wife wants to have contributed towards the education of her children. Eutopians don't want to be leeches on the side of their employers. They just want fair pay!"

By this point, having worked his words round to his real message, Strasse started to smile.

"And it will be this opportunity that the CUE offer to the people of Eutopia. Not just large corporations, not just to middle-class employers, but to each and every person currently employed and those out of work. We want people to have the opportunity to work. Indeed we believe that a good solid work-ethic is the backbone of any solid society.

First: we shall push with all our will to lower taxes in Eutopia. Low taxation is the most important way of spurring on economic growth. It removes the state's strangle-hold on the economy, and combined with measures to reduce red-tape and unnecessary bureaucratic meddling from governmental institutions, will encourage private enterprise and foster the dynamic nature of our people.

Second: we shall launch a programme of adult education schemes aimed at re-skilling and teaching those workers made redundant by company lay-offs in other professions. It is our belief that everyone should have the opportunity to find a new profession if he is laid-off, and should not be consigned to the scrapheap just because he is too old.

Third: we shall reform our nation's anti-trust laws. As we believe fully in the necessity for competition and efficiency in the work-place, we think that it is not only dangerous to have one company with a strangle-hold over the market, but it is also harmful to the economy.

Fourth: we shall push for greater democracy through reform of the union laws. Eutopia's unions are absolutely necessary for the protection of the rights of the worker, but decisions to strike should be taken by a fair, free, secret ballot. It should be down to the union member, not the corrupt union boss, whether the union makes strike action or not.

These four major points will the focus not only of our economic policy, but also of our policy to provide greater opportunity to the ordinary Eutopian. Unlike the ESA, with its soviet-socialism and its intention to take a stranglehold on the economy by the state, and unlike the UMP, which is all jaw-jaw and no law-law, we have a clear programme and a clear focus on what we want to get done!

Thankyou!"

Francis Von Hapsburg steps up to the podium.

"People of Eutopia! It's time for change! It's time for reform!

Today I propose change in our foreign and military policy. Firstly, I would like to propose a new course of foreign and domestic policies, that will render the terrorists unable to enjoy the freedoms of democrats. The only exception to this rule is in the context of trying them. However, if these insurgents wish to rejoin civilised society, they should be able to negotiate.

In terms of military policy, I believe that our forces should join the coalition of the willing, led by our American brothers, in combating terrorism, warmongering, and despotism. Let's face it, only when we are united with other nations in combatting this threat can do any good.

We will be united! We will be a just government! on this, let us never retreat or equivocate! LONG LIVE EUTOPIA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hapsburg speaks in a rally in Eutopia City:

"Voters, you may not probably know me much.
So this is my stand.
Yes, my father was Marxist.
Yes, I lived in a communist country.
But I have become disillusioned with socialism.
I advocate the sanctity of the family.
I advocate bipartisanship.
I advocate a united, democratic, free Eutopia, a Eutopia free from Communism. I advocate a balance between the rights of the minority and the rights of the majority.
I swear, when I am in the General Assembly, that I will cooperate with other legislators in realising the greatest potential of Eutopia. Vote for me, and I will ensure an effective, efficient, and free government and country. Is not that what all citizens want, from right to left? The CUE will strive for the freedoms of both worker and capitalist, male and female, Latin, Topan, andAnglo and French. I am a patriot, who seeks the improvemnt of this nation.
Eutopia is a diverse and tolerant country. We should not surrender it to a bad form of pseudo-communists.Nor should we surrender it to terrorists. I'm Francis von Hapsburg, and I run for the MGA and Vice presidential position for the CUE.

On the steps of the townhall at Neuwestbaden:

"People of Eutopia, it is time for change in our government.
The ESA has been criticised by the rest of the GA for simply doing nothing. NOTHING has been done to improve the government, the military, NOTHING has been done by these pseudo-socialist pigs. They came promising change, and sure, change occured, but was it for the better? Our economy is in shambles, we have humiliated ourselves in the diplomatic scene, we have suffered a suicide bombing, and to top it all off, our representatives have behaved most disrespectfully towards other countries!
The UMP promises to change these things, but we stand for action, not flip-flopping. We are the CUE, and we stand for the Salvation of Eutopia from decadece and inefficiency!!!"

In front of a large poster figuring the face of Loic de Fourgéres merging into President Josephus, and the slogan 'Go to bed with Fourgéres and wake up with socialism,' Oliver Strasse spoke from a raised podium.

"No doubt by now you will all be acquainted with the smarmy grin of Loic de Fourgéres. This man, supposedly running under the banner of universal moderation, is in fact just a front for yet another term for Josephus Locke Sergei! Because the great socialist himself is constitutionally prevented from running a second term, he's got his lacky and long-term ministerial underling to run for him!"

Strasse lent over the podium, gazing into the very hearts of the television cameras in front of him.

"One only has to look at the recent endorsement of the bid by the ESA. I quote Jeremiah Olson, one of the apparatchiks in the party who was a key figure in that ghastly rioting instigated last term; "I am coming before you today to ask you to vote for Loic de Fourgéres for President," Per Olson said. What more proof does one need to see that socialism runs riot in the 'moderate' camp!"

Ruffling out a sheet of paper, Strasse continued;

"Let me just remind of some of the policies that you will be supporting if you vote for de Fourgéres.

1) Nationalisation of failing military industries! Your tax-money going to prop up inefficient and unproductive businesses.

2) Abortion used as a method of contraception! Respect for life abandoned as a convenient method of avoiding pregnancy.

3) Re-distribution of wealth! Your homes, shops and rights to property taken away.

4) Suffocation of the private education sector! Taking away your right to choose your children's school.

5) Hand-outs and dependancy culture! Encouraging laziness in those who can't be bothered to work.

How moderate are these policies? These policies held by a party that has given its unconditional support to de Fourgéres.

If you want a change. If you want to know that your rights, property and country are protected againsT these subversives, vote for the REAL ALTERNATIVE!

Only we can stand up to such socialist madness! Only we have the backbone to stand alone!

Vote Strasse, vote Forbes, vote CUE!"

Somewhere in a field in the south turned into a meeting place for politicians:

"Ladies and gentlemen;
I am Francis von Hapsburg. I am the Vice Presidential candidate for the CUE party.
Why should you vote for us? We are a party that swears to protect the heritage of every group of Eutopians. We are a party of opportunity for all, which is true equality.
Why not vote for the UMP? They have made a devil's pact with the ESA, the party that would wreck, burn, destroy and rape your heritage. No truly representative party would dare make a deal with history-wreckers!!!!!!!! We represent true Eutopianism, for the CUE accepts all its inhabitants, heck, we even are magnanimous enough to tolerate the ESA!!!! The UMP's proposals are proposand to twiddle their collective thumbs, while the Socialists will destroy everything you and I hold dear - family, heritage, diversity, life, and prosperity. They want nothing more than a rouge, million-man-army state of bland sameness. Yet the UMP is willing to side with them and their perverted pseudo-egalitarianism. If you want a proper, civilised government, then remember these three letters at the ballot box: CUE! CUE! CUE!"

Having heard of John O'Floinn's outburst on Eutopia Tonight!, Strasse broke from schedule in Eutopia City to address an impromptu press conference.

"It seems as if the Chairman of the UMP is rather rattled. Our message - that the UMP, the supposed moderates, will be propped up by radical-leftwing socialists, if they achieve the Presidency, seems to have become a bit of a worry over in UMP Headquarters! Because not only have they brought out the big-guns on national television, they have also been forced onto the backfoot in defending their poor record last term.

Let me deal with their jaw-jaw piffle point by point.

First they accuse us of not representing everyone. Quite the opposite - it just so happens that our policies involve the extension of choice to all social classes, not just the reinforcement of the same-old dependancy culture and economic handouts that O'Floinn needs to endorse to receive support from the ESA.

Second, he claims innocence - apparently not knowing that the ESA are propping up de Fourgere's Presidential bid. Shall I quote Per Olson of the ESA again? "I am coming before you today to ask you to vote for Loic de Fourgéres for President" he said. Can we infer from this that O'Floinn is not properly in charge of his own party?

They say that we are the true party of the military - supporting the forces that are necessary if our country is to be defended against the terrorist acts of last term and the socialist rioting of certain ESA party members. I thank O'Floinn for the compliment.

Lastly they say that little was accomplished last term. I am not so stupid as to deny this. But is this not a little case of pot calling the kettle black? The UMP was hardly abuzz with activity.

So before the UMP go out there booming about their moderation and coherence, perhaps you look at how they react to criticisms of their policies. They are hardly wise and thoughtful. More reactionary and ill-considered.

Vote Strasse, Vote Forbes, Vote CUE.

Thankyou."

Hapsburg addresses a small crownd at an elementary school;

"Per O'Floinn says we are a bunch of incompetents. That is not true of this party anymore. If Per O'Floinn's party wins the election, let us hope that he really is not a socialist puppet. Citizens, we are far from indifferent to the poor. He says we detest the lazy. We want to educate said lazy workers to be once again, functioning members of society. Per O'Floinn, when we talked about a million-man-army, we were not talking about troops of battle. We were talking about what would happen if the ESA balkanized Eutopia, which they would have done if they had the time. If the UMP wins the election, we will be what the muscle is to the head: It enforces. If we win the electioin, however, we will prove to have the stronger will. So, as a parting quote, do not tich the box that says UMP, until they can prove decisively that they are not propped up by socialists. Vote CUE! CUE! CUE! CUE!

Oliver Strasse, at a rally in the centre of Chateauvallon, addressed an assembled crowd on CUE crime and justice policies.

"With this election campaign drawing to an end (one of the most uneventful campaigns in recent memory), I am surprised that one of the issues almost completely ignored by the other major parties is that of crime and justice.

In an age where great technological advances have succeeded in expanding the capacity of criminals beyond their original frontiers, our police forces need to have the equipment and the training to deal with cyber crimes like identity fraud and theft, and online paedophilia - an issue over which President Josephus has kept strangely quiet. If we are elected to government and the GA, we will push to expand the justice budget specifically to fund such new equipment and training.

Whatever the merit in this policy of ours, we are realistic - and understand that this does not particularly matter to the vast majority of our citizens. However dangerous cyber-crime might become, the most pressing need is to provide greater funding to the police forces and to provided greater support to the victims of crime.

Our policy is simple: prison works. If you commit the crime, do the time. Prison not only acts as a suitable place to lock up criminals away from the rest of the God-fearing members of the society, but also acts as a suitable area in which to re-educate criminals in a skill or an educational qualification. If we are elected, we will push for a major review of our prison system - building new ones if necessary, and upgrading existing ones to fulfill the needs of a modern prison system. We must have a strong prison system to provide the deterrent against criminal acts

We also want to have a sensible and considered debate on the topic of the death sentence. It is not party policy to end the moratorium on this punishment, but we will support the use of a substantial amount of legislative time to debate the matter and put it to a free vote. I personally am in favour of the reinstatement of the punishment for capital crimes, but I do not necessary reflect the views of the majority of CUE opinion.

Thirdly, we believe that crime rates for more substantive crimes can be brought down by a strong focus on the more minor offenses - like petty theft and graffiti. If we can deal with these aspects of criminal activity, and regain our communities as good safe areas for our citizens to occupy and enjoy, soon more serious crimes will become less common. One only has to look at the situation in New York to see that a focus on minor crimes can hit big criminals hard.

But most importantly, we want communities themselves to have a say in policing. Local residents know what the most pressing problems are - they should necessary be involved in the policing strategies for the local area. That is why we want community representatives to have monthly meetings with local police deparments to reaffirm priorities and explain community problems.

Crime must fall if we are to have a succesful economy and a happy nation. That is why, if you elect us to the GA, we will make tackling it one of our number one priorities."

At a press conference after the rally, Strasse addressed the cameras.

"I would like to ask de Fourgéres something. If he is elected, since support for his regime will be propped up by a party of socialists, will he be doing anything to repay the ESA for their support? If not, is this because he would rather be disassociated with their failed economic models, and because he would rather not be seen as the ESA preferred candidate this election?"

Hapsburg at a rally in Lancaster City:
"We have been called fascist jackals.
Perhaps it is time that I did something about this.
The CUE is not a fascist party. We are only slightly right of center.
We are nearing the end of, I must say, long and bitter, election campaign. I wish the best to whoever is elected, and that they do their duty.
However, let me get to what I am going to say.
Upon election, we will actually listen to the voice of the constituents. First of all, I propose a crackdown on terrorism, like what has been done in the rest of the Western world.
Secondly, my party proposes that the unions be required to make their decisions based on the free secret ballot. This will allow for greater democracy.
Thirdly, we will submit a budget that is reasonable, and which will be covered by reasonable measures. We don't expect, say some VAT to do all the paying, now, do we?
Fourthly, our party proposes putting the death penalty issue to a vote, in order that the GA will have something effective to do.
VOTE CUE! VOTE CUE!

Hapsburg speaking behind large screen:

"Citizens, this election is in its final stages. none of us can force you to vote, but first, let me remind all citizens of the dangers of submitting to tyrants, facist or communist."

[Screen shows KGB agents torturing a political prisoner, then flicks to a picture of peasant pulling a cart, with an ambitious landord jeering insults]

"I would like to remind you to always stand up for freedom for all, and do not be subjected to any unreasonable restrictions of that freedom. Also,my party advocated spreading democracy wherever possible, that tyrants are rightly forced out of power. Democracy rests upon the consent of the governed, and if the people do not think the CUE ready to lead, the CUE will patiently persuade the people. We advocate a strong society, with tolerance, freedom and a respect for all traditions and history.
LONG LIVE CUE!!! VIVE L'CUE!!! VIVA LA CUE!!!
