It seems to be permanent and inevitable. Any load of a saved game after 1443 or so will crash. WHY???

Since it doesn't crash for most of us I think you're going to have to give us more info. What's your system, patch, and so on?
And is this with any game that proceeds to that point, or just one game, who repeatedly tried to play further?
sorry. 1.07, latest beta. I thought it was a corrupted save when it happened to me as Armernia in 1439. So I start a new game as Trebizond. I leave at 1446 and save, and come back. Try to open it. CtD. 1440 save works, so I play there to 1451. Leave. Come back. Open 1451 save. CtD.
keep in mind these CtD's occur when I try to load the game, not in the game

It is more of a preventative measure to avoid future problems.

how do you HD scan? Btw, I started a game as Russia 1773 and am now at 1790 perfectly fine (especially cause I'm sitting on top of Greece, all of Poland, Danzig, Kurland, most of Sweden, Finland, Allbania, Ionia, and part of Anatolia )

Some harddrives come with special software to check the drive.
If yours does not it depends on what operating system you are using.
For example in XP you can open my computer, then right click on the hard drive, then select properties, then tools.
