I'm running the latest beta patch, and whenever I raise my levies and attempt to move them all to the same county it's resulting in a CTD. Sometimes moving some in smaller batches can work, sometimes not. Seems like the drag to select all then move always fails, however. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Getting seemingly random CTDs now without doing anything.

Fresh install changes nothing, game runs for a couple of months then crashes.

Another edit: At an absolute loss now, the game is crashing without fail every month; the only progress that can be made is through a save (auto or manual) before the crash date. Other games seem to be running, though it's difficult to tell whether it's a file problem or game problem; this one was fine for about 100 years too.

Well, we're not seeing this with 2.2.0.6 anywhere else at all - it seems very stable. Can I see your ck2/logs/system.log file please?

These re-installs - did they involve manually deleting everything under both the Steam/CK2 and documents/ck2 folders, before the re-install?

Does this happen wit a fresh new game start, or just this particular save file?

Re-installs deleted everything - I followed your instructions from a different thread.

I've started a couple of other quick test games, and it's not been crashing, but this save was fine for a while too before it went wrong. I'm not sure the original army movement actually has anything to do with it, probably just a coincidence whilst I was looking for a trigger. It's now crashing regardless of what I do a month or so after the game loads (I reckon the only thing from stopping it from being the same date is the Ironman autosave a couple of days after the file loads).

Ok, so it's a problem confined to that one save. Was it started and some previous patch, I'd assume?

You're somewhat low on memory
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3956MB RAM

Display Memory: 2188 MB
Dedicated Memory: 466 MB
Shared Memory: 1722 MB
3,956 - 1,722 = 2,234MB, not much over the bare minimum of 2gb. But that ought not to cause save game corruption or crashes in and of itself. Quite possibly that combined with the memory management issues in 2.2 corrupted this save file.

Sorry about that! You should be OK from now on though.

Sadly not, the file was created in 2.2.0.6 - I'd waited for a beta patch to be declared almost clear before starting a Charlemagne game.

Still not working in 2.2.0.7, but I don't mind writing the save off so long as it's a problem confined just to that one.

Had always thought that 4GB was ok for the game, but if that means I'm only using half of it, is there anything I can do to optimise the usage a bit?

Thanks again for the help :).

Edit: I am, however, now getting random CTDs on a new save on the latest patch, but not ones I can re-create or hazard a guess at a source.

Edit again: Scrap that, it's the same bug - runs for a couple of months, then crashes.

There's nothing more we can do in the game about memory, no. But as I said that should NOT be causing you such severe problems.

Seems there's something else going on in your game, Windows, or computer. Can you describe these crashes in more detail? Is there any action or event that triggers them? After one, can you just restart the game and it's Ok for a while, or do you have to reboot or wait a while?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 20 minutes' play. If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

There's absolutely nothing discernible about these crashes, other than they happen a seemingly arbitrary amount of days after loading. The only progress I was making in the first save was that the game would Ironman autosave ten days after load, before crashing afterwards (I should have copied files and worked out if there was a set number of days, but I'm an idiot...). The second file seems to have beaten this system somewhat - it loads at the 3rd August 800, and will crash on the 8th, regardless of what actions are taken in game.

Am about to get some temperature readings, but the laptop I play on doesn't seem to get noticeably hotter. I've played what are probably unhealthy sittings of games (Skyrim, Dota for example - fairly intensive ones) somewhat regularly without problems. I do have a laptop cooling fan, but I've not been using it for a couple of weeks simply because it's freezing where I am at the moment. I've played a decent amount of CK2 without the fan before without problems.

Added in a missing NOT to my previous post ... :)

Machines can start overheating when a fan fails, or a vent gets blocked with dust, or if you turn the in-room heating up, or ...

Temps before launch: http://imgur.com/gohYcUr
A short while after launch: http://imgur.com/uOcvXba
And a little bit afterwards with the fan then running: http://imgur.com/3yyLZHM

The GPU would drop a couple of degrees as I alt-tabbed out of game.

I'm assuming those flame signs aren't good? Though I feel (could be wrong) that I'm usually quite diligent with keeping the vents open and the laptop cool, I've got an air duster kicking around and it never feels like it's getting too warm. Though I've no idea what a good benchmark is, to be honest.

It's not clear to me what Temp1 and Temp2 are reading, but the GPU and CPU never get to 60c, so I would have said that's OK. May as well cross-check with the -Z utilities I linked too. And there's no harm in cleaning out the machine's vents.

But if that's not the problem, I frankly don't know what is. It's definitely something individual to your game installation, Windows Installation or hardware (we'd know if everyone was getting this!), but I can't see what so far. Your video card is at the low end, but ought to work. I do see your sound drivers are very old, check with Realtek for newer ones. You could also try a few tweaks to see if they help at all:

master_volume=0

draw_trees=no

draw_citysprawl=no

I've just tried it on the new patch, and managed to run for a few months - longer than ever since this bug showed up - without any crashes. Don't have time to check it more thoroughly at the moment, but hopefully 2.2.0.8 has solved whatever the hell was going wrong. I'll give it a proper go tonight.

Thanks again :).

Edit: Celebrations were slightly premature, first file is still bugged, but the second seems to be ok. Not sure if I can recreate the bug.

Naturally, since your problem is not a game bug, it won't be fixed by any game patch.

But what your problem is, i just cannot see, everything looks fine. Is it still the case that "first file is still bugged, but the second seems to be ok"? (by "file" I assume you mean save game)

Do these crashes leave entries in the Windows Event Viewer? If so, are they all the same?
