After patch 1.14, when I exist the game to the main menu then the game crashes to the desktop but relaunches automatically. Why?

It always crashed. Rather than settling that, they set it to just restart apparently.

I never noticed the game crashing to desktop before and I bought EU IV at release.

That's ridiculous, i doubt it. Furthermore, the crash is occuring ALSO when clicking "Back" from the single player screen.

Welcome to the club then unfortunately. I've seen it crash on "resetting game state" for almost 2 years now.

Maybe it's possible to summon @Wiz to get a clarification on why the game is crashing to desktop when exiting to the main menu.

I'd say I got the CTD about every other time I tried to exit to the menu (pre-1.14).

I get a CtD every single time I exit to the main menu in 1.14.

Are you sure it's a CTD and not the game restarting itself? As I'm pretty sure Wiz said in one of the streams that it's meant to do the latter.

Yes it restarts itself after I click exist to the main menu. For me this is a CtD because the game does not go directly to the main menu but to the desktop first.

Why is restarting intended? The menu interface says "Exit to Main Menu" not "Restart the Game" It is seriously annoying that you have to restart the game in 1.14 every time to you want to go to the main menu.

It does, unfortunately, initially mimic the appearance of a CTD. If someone hasn't been watching some of the streams with Wiz and DDRJake it would be really easy to get confused,

I assumed it had to do with the restoration of the new world after a random new world creation. Apparently it isnt the case.
This is standard operating procedure now so that the game gets a fresh gamestate and checksum now after you exit from your current game. Takes getting used to.

Takes getting used to? I don't think I will get used to the game crashing to desktop and restarting just because I want to go back to the main menu. I'm happy that I held off buying The Cossacks.

Then you fail to appreciate how Paradox is making people's lives easier. Especially for multiplayer but also singleplayer, a fresh gamestate and checksum every time ensures no desyncs or graphical or performance artifacts. If you're going to whine about the game restarting when you quit and go to main menu, then you have little patience for a Paradox grand strategy in the first place and probably should not play EUIV or any of their other games in the first place.
