CTD Survey - Please share experiences GOOD or BAD

Funny you should ask if there is trouble finishing a game, as my CTD's always seem to come late in the game. Has anyone else noticed this?

1. How frequently do you experience a CTD? Do you have problems finishing a game?
About every 10 hours or so

2. What Operating System are you running?
Win ME

3. What version of Direct X are you running?
8.1

4. What brand CPU is in your computer?
Intel P3


5. What video card do you use?
GeForce 2 Go (laptop)

6. What sound card?
None (laptop)

7. How much memory is installed in your computer?
128 (unfortunately)

I have had 2 since Christmas. Has not been a problem. Both were caused when I tried to upgrade a Norwigian ship. I had military control of Norway. No random crashes. All in all 1.02 seems pretty stable

Thanks to everyone who replied. The one thing I certainly learned is that I am glad I am not anchoring the support forum because if there are trends in all of this, they certainly are not obvious. Beyond that it seems that most of us are having occasional problems, but CTDs plague only an unlucky few.

That is quite correct. The trend continues in other games too - there appears to be no obvious combination.
I have just purchased a game and have no problem with it. However the Board for the game is unindated with complaints from both people with Higher specs than mine and also Lower ones. There appears to be no ryhme or reason....

Maybe we need a new, and better, OS - anyone care to take on MS?

Pretty rarely. I can't quantify unfortunately. CTDs do occur in Paradox games more than other game makers'. This is a certainty, sadly. Maybe due to the complexity of their games?

all I know is
playing HOI with ICQ opened on ur desktop
will bring you to crash

I crashed often
but after i realize this
i change the mode and minimize the icq
and then I NEVER crash anymore

I don't know is this mentioned since i didn't read this post at all hehe

1> Hardly ever when I play hands on but it CTD's quite often in HOFF games (When I'm not watching of course...).

This has probably to do with that though I've spend much more time playing hands on than off I've covered 100x the ig time during HOFF.

I don't count when I screw up and trigger a known CtD.
(stack blitzing, upgrading etc.)

HOI freezes once in a while when I load a game from within a game though. It never freezes a second time when I kill the frozen HOI and restart the game.

The most common reason for crashes seems to be video drivers. I would recommend to anyone experiencing a crash that they try updating their video card drivers from the manufacturor's website. This solves a lot of problems not only with HOI but with many other pc games.

3) latest available (8.1 or some such)
4) Pentium 4 1.7
5) Geforce 3 xtacy 6966 (top end geforce 3...I forget exact type)

it seems to happen randomly, ie not after any particular event/time but seems to happen more frequently if ive been playing for a couple hours and get later into the game

A few, lets say every 3-4 hour or so. But with autosave i have no problems finishing a game even though I, atleast statistically, should experience 1-3 CTDs in every game.
