There seems to be widely different experiences with regards to Crashes to Desaktop (CTDs). In order to inquire as to whether certain operating systems or platforms might be more or less prone to experience problems, let's see what experiences different people are having. If you have a moment, please answer the following questions. If you do not know the answers to all of the questions, please fill out as much as you do know. And I cannot stress enough that it is VERY important that we get ffedback from people who are NOT experiences problems as well as from those who are.

1. How frequently do you experience a CTD? Do you have problems finishing a game?

2. What Operating System are you running?

3. What version of Direct X are you running?

4. What brand CPU is in your computer?

5. What video card do you use?

6. What sound card?

7. How much memory is installed in your computer?

Thanks to all who participate.

I CTD very, very infrequently - every 20 hours of gameplay or so. This is far better than EU2's performance on the same (fairly low-end) machine.

Windows ME
DirectX... 8, I think
Celeron 650 mhz (laptop)
video/sound cards - whatever was installed, I haven't upgraded them. Not very good ones.

1> Twice in single player since I bought the game on release day. I get them maybe once or twice in a 4 hr session of multiplayer, however.

2> Win XP

3> 8.1

4> Intel P3 (600MHz)

5> GeForce 2 GTS

6> Sound Blaster Live! value

7> 512MB

You may want to consider the chipset on the mother board as well, as they've been known to cause trouble, especially on AMD rigs... Mine is an Intel 440BX I think.
All in all my system is just about ready for retirement.

DX 8.1 (run DXDIAG to find this)

4. What brand CPU is in your computer?

With v1.00 I crashed every 45 minutes or so. Now, with v1.2, crashes are very rare, and usually related to known bugs -- probably only once every 15 to 20 hours of gametime. No problem finishing a game.

2. What Operating System are you running?

Windows 95

3. What version of Direct X are you running?

10

4. What brand CPU is in your computer?

Pentium II 450 mghz

5. What video card do you use?

Winsock Titanium

6. What sound card?

Uh . . . gosh, if I remember correctly,

Viper AWE 64 ?

7. How much memory is installed in your computer?

128 meg RAM

As you can see, I'm running at the low end of processing power with an old sound card and operating system. The game is very stable in it's current iteration, much more so than EU/EU2 was at this stage.

1. About once every 10 hours of play, I have no problems finishing a game. CTD's normally happen with Paras or rearranging fleets. The rearranging fleet one seems better in 1.02 so I have very few CTD these days. I know Para's cause problems so I always save before I use them, and rarely use them anyway.

Thus far I see no real trends of specific configurations leading to trouble and it appears that people having significant problems are far outnumbered by people who find the game to be generally stable. I cannot say that I find those conclusions to be surprising, but it is never-the-less interesting.

Not too many, and no real patterns. Mostly I can play on and on with no problems. The CTDs I vividly remember happened in the following circumstances (all SP):

1) Trying to dive or tac bomb Kolding in Denmark

2) Running hands off games to watch weather, sudden CTD in late 1936. Twice.

Depends on which version I'm running. ;)

I have a very low end machine (P3 450 MHz) that I have added extra RAM to and I have very few problems. It's all about turning off all the extra crap windows has running in the background:rolleyes: . The only reason I maintain a PC at all is for the wonderful games such as this. Viva Macintosh!!!!
