Hey guys, bit of a weird one. Got some hours into this mod yesterday and I loved it, but today when I tried to launch it it crashed during loading (with the loading bar full, saying "creating immersive experiences").

A total wipe of CK2 fixed it, it launched successfully, I looked forward to playing it again, closed it (I had things to do first), but then when I launched it again the same issue happened again.

Right now, a launch of vanilla CK2 will work fine. But with the mod, it's CTD during loading.

Things I have tried:
  • I have tried to reinstall the mod
  • I have reinstalled the mod from another download
  • I have verified Steam's game files
  • I have tried to reinstall CK2
  • I have tried deleting the gfx folder in Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II
  • Double checking I do not have CRP+ installed
But this all doesn't matter. The only thing that works is a complete wipe of CK2 both from Steam and of the CK2 folders in /Steam and /User and doing a full reinstall after that [EDIT: It does not anymore, see below]. I can't do that every time I want to play the game.

In other words, launching HIP seems to guarantee it will crash the next time.

Anyone got any idea of what's going on and how to fix it? I'm on Windows and playing with version 2020-03-19 (Frosty2)

EDIT: well scratch that, I just did a wipe and reinstall again and it did not matter at all. CTD on load.

Then I thought, maybe try it with different modules? So I tried it with EMF and it crashed. Then later I launched it again and it worked (????). Thinking it might have been something unrelated to modules (since EMF first did not and then *did* work), I installed the default package again. Crash.

I'm going a little nuts here. I was having tons of fun with Svidhjod and I don't feel like putting time into vanilla when what I really want is play this gorgeous mod, but it seems vanilla is the only thing that I can play at the moment.

I looked at my error.log and it is *massive*. I don't know if this is from the crash or from a successful launch. Maybe someone here can make sense of it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Crashes to desktop can be caused by all sorts of things. The error.log file is large, but contains no information about what is causing the crash (they're mostly errors about oversights in SWMH or warnings about stuff in EMF that isn't meant to be playable anyway). You can usually get a much more verbose log if you launch the game with the options -debug -debugscripts, but it still won't tell you/us everything.

When does the CTD happen exactly? When you load into the main menu? When you load your game?

Does the crash happen without SWMH installed?

The CTD happens when I attempt to load the main menu. Right before or after loading finishes; the loading bar is always full.

I'll try to launch it without SWMH installed, I'll get back to you.

EDIT: Okay so, I reinstalled HIP (nothing else) without SWMH and I got the same CTD at the same time.
