Has anyone else experienced this? The game runs more or less fine, but when you hit the yearly autosave, or try to manually save the game, the whole thing locks up followed by CTD.
It only seems to happen in the late game, on larger galaxies. Usually, it starts becoming a problem after substantial lag sets in during the campaign. It's like the game runs out of memory, or something. It manages to keep chugging along during regular game play, but when the save point comes up, it pushes everything over the edge, and the game chokes.
I've noticed that unsubscribing from mods (even if I'm not actually using them), and deleting stored saves sometimes has an impact on fixing this, but it's not really a "sure thing."
Any tips, tricks, or fixes?
