CTD issues, please advise

have a technical problem that I need your help with please.

Game Version & Patch (incl. publisher): original version, fresh from box.

OS & build/SP: Windows Vista x32 Build 6.0 (UAC IS OFF)

Computer, CPU & speed: AMD 2.6 Ghz

RAM: 3gb

Free HDD space: 1 TB

Video (brand, model, driver, memory): Nvidia 9800 GT 7.15.0011.7519(English) 512 MB memory

DirectX Version: 10


I read the stickies but I still have the following problem:
Two Issues
1. I installed HoI 2 with the base install, placing it in C://Paradax Games etc I launch game, click either tutorial or Singleplayer ,select the particular mission and then the game CTD.
2. I completely uninstalled the game reinstalled it under C:/games and launched the game. Intro video failed to play, and I can click on the tutorial button and select mission before it CTDs but when I click on Singleplayer it CTDs instantly, not allowing me to click on the campaign type.

What version of the game do you have

HOI2 Armageddon from Gamersgate?
HOI2 Anthology?
HOI2 Complete?

Here is what i recommend (if nothing is working that is)

1. Uninstall everything
2. Install the Armageddon game only (double click on the setup.exe file in the Armageddon folder on the CD). Install it in the following folder c:\games\hoi2dda
3. Once installed test the game ... it should be 1.1 Armageddon (IIRC)
4. Once tested and the game runs install the 1.2 Arma patch (look at the sticky in the main forum for this). Make sure that the patch sees the game in the c:\games\hoi2dda directory.... if it doesn't change it so it does. Checksum is VBLV
5. Copy the entire contents of the c:\games\hoi2dda folder to c:\games\hoi2dda12 folder (this is your backup in case something goes wrong or you want to revert back to a clean install).
6. Optional... installing the 1.3 beta patch... download the file and then extract all of the contents of the file into the c:\games\hoi2dda folder. Overwrite files when asked.

Now if you want to install the other versions of the game (HOI2 Standard and HOI2 Doomsday... you can repeat the process above.. just use different folder locations ... Do not install the other versions on top of the Armageddon install.

Uninstalled everything
Installed Armageddon in c:\games\hoi2dda
ran game, selected Singleplayer, picked a campaign(selected nation clicked ok), and game CTDs.
help?
game version was 1.1c GKCW?

Rather random but try renaming your avi folder to anything else; I prefer avi.old.

The Bink player that runs the opening movie causes serious stability issues with a lot of systems and this is a rather common fix this problem.

By default it is in

C:/Program Files/Paradox Interactive/HOI2

Ok, renamed the folder to avi.old and now none of the video files are working, BUT I can at least load and I believe play the game now.
Is there any way to fix the massive flickering of the screen I get when I run the game? so far it only happens when the game is loading something, but i'm not sure if its just my computer, or what?
