CTD at specific date, oct 1 - 3 1066. Help please.

I'll keep this short and to the point.

My computer is a 4000$ monster machine so there aren't any "upgrade your pc or drivers" issues.

Playing as Connacht, became King of Ireland and Wales. Saved and quit last night before the game updated, never any issues. Open game today and game ctds at exactly October 1, 2, or 3 in the year 1160, about a month after my save or right after the autosave for that month (I have monthly autosave).

Only once has it ever progressed past this, my second try of about 30. Character died right around this date randomly at about 45 years old, I had half a dozen forged claims and didn't want to lose them so I quit/reloaded. Now I'm stuck with this.

Although this is my "learn to playthrough", I'm thoroughly enjoying the relative quietness of the british isles and have over 50 hours of play on this file. I will likely stop playing if I can't remedy this.

Fixes Attemped:
-Downloaded all new DLC (cost me 20$ but didn't fix anything)
-Loaded earlier saves (still crashed at that date)
-Console command killed myself earlier (no change)
-Console command removed "Ill" trait (no change)

Did you start the game with patch 1.05?

I'm not sure but I purchased it less than a month ago, before the release of the Islam, Africa unit, and Caliph Songs DLC, but after all the rest of the DLC.

Silly question, you are fully patched up, right?


Not a problem with steam version, usually, but make sure to check for updates if using the Gamersgate version.

I'd bet it's because you started with 1.05 then auto-patched up to 1.06.

Maybe this game is gone? But you can avoid the problem in future by making a copy of the game files and launching the exe from there. Just copy the whole folder. Then this version won't patch and you can carry on with no issues.

Might be worth posting in the bug forum though. Maybe there's a solution?

I never use forums or outside help usually, so forgive me if this is a stupid question but is it possible to email my save game to someone to look at?

Edit: Oh and could you post a link to the bug forum. This place is a labyrinth within a maze within a Paradox. (I know that's a bad joke )

The Bug Reports forum link is toward the top of this main CK2 forum page, always. Failing all else you could search the page for it with ctl-F "bug reports". But I'll move this thread there for you.

Upload your problem save game to any public file hosting site, and paste a link to it in here.

Thanks for properly categorising my post I'm going to try reinstalling the game as well. Maybe the update didn't quite work.

Uninstalled game and resinstalled to no avail. The only files carried over were the saves, so that narrows the problem down to that individual file right?

Your save file does indeed crash my installation of CK2 v1.06b (LFOE) so there is now an internal report concerning your issue, featuring your case description, save file and resulting error logs. It will be reviewed by the relevant internal staff and hopefully fixed in the next patch(es).

Update on fixes attemped:

05-07-2012

-Change leaders/controlled character (no change)
-Disabled autosave (no change)
-Edit in game date to AFTER "doomsday" with notepad++ (Game simply dies the following month)

Holy crap I fixed it!..... Kinda.... I used Notepad++ to edit the in game date BACK 10 years and it seems to be working. At a glance, all things reliant on a "start date" like age seem to have been rolled back accordingly. I hope this won't cause temporal issues for me.... While being well aware of my non-existant knowledge of the game's inner workings I would pose 3 points that may contribute to a solution:

1 - That it's simply a coincidence that this occurred around the update. I was almost certainly playing when the update released on Steam. And since Steam doesn't update while in-game, it could not have caused the crash. When the first crash happened I simply took it as a sign that I should get some sleep, so I didn't even reopen it until the next day.

2 - It may be an in game occurrence/event that is having conflictual issues with the date and cannot properly resolve. Prior to this I hadn't even used the console commands so it's a pure and vanilla file.

3 - When I reach the dreaded October 1st to 3rd 1160 once again that this will happen all over again.

When I reach said date, likely by Monday, I'll update again.

So now on Jan 1st 1156 (about 6 and a half years past the date modification) the game crashes again, same general characteristics. Except the issue that may be plagueing the first game my have shown up on this autosave.

When I go to reload it the autosave shows nothing... like the entire game world is empty. The map and all delineations still exist yet the people, kingdoms, everyone is gone... and the camera, which usually automatically looks at the capital of the place you are controlling, is moved all the way to the bottom left of the map, as if everyone left for argentina for a vacation. Maybe this will shed more light on what's going on.
