When I played the demo there were several factories in the South that got deleted when the CSA formed, giving it an industrial score of 0 when it should have been fairly substantial. Anyone else see that happen?

I never really noticed. Possibly the pops moved or promoted after the CSA seceded, causing the factories to shut down? That, or they were dependning on raw materials coming from the northern states, maybe. If not, then possibly a bug.

Even if CSA survives the war they will always end up getting annexed by USA due to later reforms......

By the time the civil war occurs, there is a good chance than the US will have predominantly Union forces already or will have the CSA siding forces moved away from the actual CSA states. If that happens, the CSA will start out defenseless and will get absolutely steamrolled by the union side.

CSA needs an event to generate reasonable historic forces once they secede.

When you form the CSA you lose ALL factories BTW.

Anyways, I have been playing as the CSA and it's 1870 now I think.
I won the civil war by turn military spending up to 100% and use mostly Dixie infantry. (lets pretend the military was mostly run by the south ;)

Since then I have defeated the USA in not just one, but two wars. No cheats or using cheap tactics like the first one. They kept declaring war first thing our peace treaty expired. Now they stopped because my army is now massive, I think I have over 60 brigades.

And my economy is very well. I managed to stockpile 50k in money for the second war which drained it all, but now it is hard to make money as I get more and more craftsmen but there is an oversupply of every good. I only have Mexico and Columbia in my SOI, so selling everything is the hard part.

Spain and England will not become my allies with 200 relations, so defeating the USA will be hard, it seems after I killed a stack of 50k they make another one.

But unfortunately now I am plagued by the rebel problem. Every 6 months 90% of my provinces rebel which takes up a lot of my time and makes the game rather boring.

This is the strategy I had in mind as well. Do everything for Dixie before you choose to stay with them. :)

I guess an AI-controlled US defeats an AI-controlled South always because at the beginning of the game most soldiers are Yankees, which is a little bit ahistorical by the way. One can even call into doubt that Yankee culture had been the primary culture in 1836.

In retail they lose factories as well. Plus inventions. This really puts them back to stone age and they can't support troops. I have reported this as bugs and I think it will be fixed. However to those that complain about not enough troops awarded to CSA on breakup and not enough dixie soldier pops, I can say: troops are not split randomly or in half, you get Dixie brigades so to get more at start you have to encourage soldier pops using national focus in the biggest southern states. I fielded 60,000 Dixie without problems. Problems started once CSA without inventions and factories killed by the bug, had to support them. That ruined the game and I have to wait for 1.2.

Nope, in my Belgium game the ACW lasted very long ending in a white peace. A couple of years later the CSA is in the USA SoI.

Why not? It could have been possible that the South won its formal independence. But the North gained back at least influence due to its superior potential.

That, and actually there are historians and history fans who don't think that the USA and a hypothetical CSA should have remained enemies forever. It was a war between brothers, not between alien peoples or ideologically opposed nations, who would demonize each others for the next 100 years. The north American continent is large enough for two American nations, especially when they have a language in common as well as the basic political institutions.

I've been playing as GB in my first game, and when the ACW broke out they asked for my help and I decided to intervene. I've been propping them up ever since - three times the USA has tried to reclaim the southern states, and I used my armies in Canada and my main army to push them back all three times, even helping the CSA win some extra territory.

Now though, the CSA is in the USA's SoI, and Florida (which had seceeded) has now gone back to being part of the Union.

I suspect the USA will ultimately win through diplomatic means, but it's been fun keeping them hobbled by propping up the Confederates.

The problem is that the game AI without any interference by human players tends to set up the American pops with a heavy biased towards Yankee soldiers. I know when I played America in the demo and didn't touch the soldier settings nor focus any in the south, 90-100% of my soldier pops were based in the northern states. So the CSA will always get a quick and sharp bitchslap from the USA unless a human player intervenes.

What I've seen so far (only played USA several times)--

1) The John Brown event is WAY too early. That leads to a lot of CON and MIL that can quickly push you over the edge into the ACW.

2) If you want the CSA to win, do national focus in the south for soldiers. Most of the US Army will turn CSA. If you want the other, then make sure you raise no Dixie units.

3) Station US troops in all the key cities of the south. They are no longer "bumped" out when the Civil War begins, as in V:R. As soon as you occupy the CSA, you can demand re-unification.

4) Florida and Oklahoma will sometimes NOT join the CSA. This happens if the ACW starts too soon (they dont get the CSA cores event).

5) I always do the Ostend Manefesto. Yeah, it pisses off Europe, but it gives you Cores in Cuba--this is important for when you want to establish the glorious American Hemisphere Empire in late game :)
