So I am playing as a duke in Ireland. The pope calls a crusade for Sicily. I figure this is a good way to improve some poor relationship with the pope, as well as getting the crusader trait. I put about 1000 men on boats and start sailing.

The crusade was going pretty well (over 50% war score) when I got there. There was one county that wasn't being sieged, so that is where I landed. Pretty soon, the 10K stack next to me joined my siege. This was the last bit of land left. I hovered over the crusade flag on the left of the screen to see who contributed the most, and it was me!?! All of the men in my current siege were listed as mine, even though I was a very small part. Sure enough, I got all the land.

Is this a bug, or is it because I started the final siege that put the war score at 100%? Either way, I was in no way prepared for that giant influx of territory with my limit at 5.

I find Crusade contribution to be a strange thing. The guy who liberates the holy land, the counties, will have less of a contribution than the guy who fought a doomstack. I don't suppose you led a charge against a stack at one point to push you over the edge?

If that was the only county you sieged, you probably got a large contribution bonus by just sitting on your ass sieging the province. The Pope LOVES to grant large contribution to people who lose lots of men and sit around doing jack shit. Not the people who run an efficient campaign...

Cyrileom pretty much described my contribution. I was pretty late to the show, and really didn't do much. And even the county I started sieging got a significant boost from someone else. I was curious who it was, which is why I looked at the contribution, and was shocked to see my name at the top of the list. I thought it was just whoever contributed the most men was the "winner", so to speak. So from that standpoint, I guess I was the winner, but I don't know why I got credit for all of the men.
