I agree, it's a bit weird.
But I disagree on your general statement on Paradox intros. HoI and Victoria had quite boring ones as well, that's true. But I loved the EU1 intro, which was very nice and inspiring. And the EU2 intro was very good too.
I rate them:
1. EU1
2. EU2
3. Victoria
4. HoI
5. CK
But as long as the game is as good as it seems to be, they can have a limping green frog for an intro if they wish.
How can you not like the Victoria intro? it´s so beautifully gruesome!
Almost as gruesome as that grand strategy (I have forgotten its name) nuke game for Amiga from the early 90s. It´s a kid sitting in his mommas lap crying: "Mommy, I´m scared".

For some good intros watch the ones for Fallout 1/2.

A short comment on the Fallout stuff before I return to the topic at hand, if I may: The Fallout intros are among the best ever made, so I definitely agree with you there.
But that doesn't change the fact that I thin the EU2 intro was really well done. It got the point across well to those less familiar with the period, while still getting me into the appropriate mood.
The Victoria intro is of another style, more disjointed and fragmented, but IMHO it suits the period perfectly.
Note: I have heard that the Vicky intro might be a total rippoff of the Imperialism games, but since I never played them, I can't comment on that.
