and how would it look if you owned multiple kingdoms?

i just don't think it's that important... if you care you can go to the save game files and do the work yourself, but i wouldn't want to waste a developer's time trying to figure out how to do this without slowing down the engine or creating conflicts in the code as multiple events fire because your new king is simultaneously King Henry II of England and King Henry III of Ireland.

It would look similar to this

James VI & I (19 June 1566 – 27 March 1625) was King of Scots as James VI from 1567 to 1625, and King of England and Ireland as James I from 1603 to 1625.

I got that from here link.

So instead of just having James Stuart, King of England and Ireland... it would read as James IV of England, and James I of Ireland.

Maybe it's just me, but I just don't see it being that much to add. I'm not a programmer, but I would imagine it would be a single file which would look something like..

Kingdom.England.Name {

#Henry I
#Henry II
#Henry III
#Henry IV
#William I
#William II
#James I
#John I
#Jean I

}

Kingdom.France.Name {

#James I
#James II
#James III
#John I
#Jean I
#Francis I
#Francis II

}

Kingdom.Spain.Name {

#Philip I
#Philip II
#Charles I
#Charles II
#Leon I
#William I
#Francis I

}

But that's cool though, what's important to some people may not be important to others. If it would take a programmer a bazillion years to figure this out, by all means don't add it. But if it would only take a little bit of time, then sure go for it.

:D

Family trees would be very nice. So would courtiers and other characters without a title gaining piety, prestige, gold, etc. over time due to their traits and being employed by someone (in their court), perhaps with a corresponding drain on your coffers/income over time, probably fractional per year, based on their skills--a 20 martial marshal is going to want a fair price to stay unless there's some big reason for him to serve you.

It would be useful if their were other jobs than chancellor, marshal, bishop, steward, and spymaster to grant your characters as well, like, say, bodyguard. That job would grant a fair income and their martial skill would affect the chance of assassinations, nasty battle events happening, and so on. Or cupbearer/food taster. Intrigue, perhaps, reduces likelihood of assassinations as well. Sheriff/chief officer/something--stewardship, intrigue, martial, and diplomacy of this character all factor into the probability of crime events and revolts occurring in your demesne. It would make for a more interesting and diverse court.

Nicknames like in Medieval Total War 2 would be cool too. If a person is cruel, proud, etc. it would have "tyrant" as a nickname.

Example - William "the Tyrant" de Normandie

sounds good ! i like this idea and corresponding to the medieval way of calling rulers

about numbering i think it was planned to implant it the game but abandonned there's an entry in the text.csv files that is :

Probably the massive screwups Snowball (the Russians originally developing the game) made. There are loads of things like that in the game files.

If they give out names for people (aka William the Cruel), I think it should be at least somewhat rare. Therefore if you get one for your character, it will feel much more rewarding and earned.

Until you get five williams the cruel and seven william the saint.

It would be much more interesting to have something like:

James VI & I (19 June 1566 – 27 March 1625) was King of Scots as James VI from 1567 to 1625, and King of England and Ireland as James I from 1603 to 1625.

Specially since there's no risk of the name repeating one hundred times...

It would be cool that to be called William the Saint you need at least 1500 piety. And maybe something like higher and lower things of these names. For example, William the great(1000 prestige) and then William the glorious(2000 prestige), William the Conqueror(3000 prestige and you have to have taken alot of land) William the brave(1000 prestige and ''Brave'' trait). Also, maybe some titles would be negative, like William the Cruel(-100 prestige, -100 piety)

I'm pretty sure it's already been suggested, but I want to second the idea of Baronies. They're probably too small to be played by the player himself, but playing as a Count it would be nice to be able to appoint courtiers to the Baronies in my land, which could then contribue small amounts of gold each year based on the Baron's loyalty, stewardship and other abilities and traits. Once you progress to the Duke title you'd no longer have to deal directly with Barons, of course - unless you're a single-province Duke with no Counts.

With the new engine, the maps often have more provinces than before. As such you could split each county into 3 or 4 provinces, thus the County being the region. Then a govenor/baron could be appointed in the provinces itself.

One of problems i can see with this is the micro management of this. This was also a major bother in Rome 1.00 before the govenor was appointed per region. There were too many govenors to appoint all the time.

Imagine having 10 personal demesne each having 3-4 barons to be appointed. That is 30-40 extra people to manage, besides the normal vassals.

It would make being a 1-2 province Count more fun though.

Also should Barons be a whole new tier? ... each with their own armies and family and income? ... think of the massive increase in CPU calculations needed for this.

Maybe the best solution would be to abstract it ... giving the Noble class (and the other classes) more influence in the game. Maybe have each class back an heir in the county, thus risking civil war if some feel stepped on by who actually becomes heir. A bit like the Senate factions in Rome.

I for one would welcome this proposal. As for the micromanagement issue, isn't that one of the reasons we play Paradox games? I love tooling around and dealing with all the nitty gritty stuff in the games. Perhaps that is why I requested more ledgers for an future CK2 game, to provide more information for review and manipulation. BTW: I liked the previous EUR with more governors and enjoyed managing all the "staff". Hey Nodscouterr, I like your idea of obtaining "labels" based on achievements.

My preferred method of adding Barons would be to just divvy each provinces income into 10 or so "estates." You give somebody an estate in a province with a base income of 1.00 he gets 0.10 a month, and the title "Baron."

If possible the estate would be a virtual province, with it's own stand loyalty, and army. It would need it's own inheritance law. A major difference between Baronies and other titles would be that, as a Baron is not sovereign, he can't change any of the laws. The Baron would still live at the Count's court, but he could have a Steward or a Marshall.

Ideally you'd integrate these guys with the Noble classes somehow. They should also Count as vassals for purposes of Realm Duress, events, etc.

Another problem with this system is it just moves the boring tier down one level. It also adds lots of new Courts.

The only tier I'd consider adding would be Viscounts. A Viscount has a desmene limit of 1, no matter what. This would ensure an AI Count who inherited or conquered too much land could keep it in his realm, and eliminate the problem of him giving you new vassals. It's extremely unhistoric for a Count to be able to create other Counts, especially Counts who pledged to a third guy. Note that this does not increase the number of Courts because AI Counts were gonna give the land away anyway.

I wouldn't mind the micro-management at all. As things stand, I already use plenty of time micro-managing the education of all the children at my court, and to be honest, it's extremely tedious. Swapping that out with more emphasis on managing the nobles, who I understand often acted as the main counterweight to the king in the timeframe, would be very welcome.

If there was no automated way to control the baronies, then no I wouldn't want to see it. Although, if the option was there itself to tool around with the baronies I wouldn't mind, but like I said I would hope that there is an option for it to be automated if it becomes too tedious if you become too large.

I would like to see "Province Decisions" if possible. I can see stuff like..

Host Tournament - You select a court member, preferably with a high marshal skill to go to the tournament. If he's successful you'll get some extra prestige, and that court member will get some bonuses as well. Perhaps a trait of "Tournament Champion" would add the bonuses.

Host Festival - This increases the happiness of the province it's in, and to a marginal degree the surrounding provinces also. I suppose this could fire an event for your local ruler, where a "bastard" may be born due to all the drunken fun. This could fire an event where you get extra money for the month it's in.

Forced Labor - This can double the income for a province for a limited time, say 3 months, but it's prone to making people revolt. So if your province brings in 3 bucks per month, it would bring in 18 bucks for 3 months instead of 9. It's an easy and reckless method for exchanging "prestige" for "money" if needed.

Send Missionaries - If your province is a recent conquer in a land that doesn't have the same faith, or your having religious uprisings in one of your own lands, sending missionaries to spread faith is a good idea.

These would probably need prestige and/or money to start, 50 prestige for a tournament, 50 prestige for a festival, etc.

:D

'I only hope the map remains 2D...'

Wont happen.

If they remake CK, they will screw it up with the new shitty euIII/hoiIII engine.

What is so damn wrong with Paradoxes 3d maps? I like them. Besides, Rome and Eu3 are old, so they will most definitely have better maps when CK2 comes(Which it won't, might I add)

Only sad part about it, at least for me, is that I always play in the political map mode and not the terrain map. Perhaps they can make the political map mode more attractive. :D

Maybe they should just combine the political map-mode and the terrain map. Personally I never use the terrain map.

Re. your comment about getting too large to manage the baronies, they would only be relevant in your own demesne, so it is likely that your intrigue value would be the factor that limits the number of baronies you have to deal with. However, 15 provinces x 4 baronies is still another 60 characters, so simply adding them as another tier of title doesn't sound like the best solution.

Although I haven't played it, perhaps there is something to be learnt from HoI3's map setup?
