Crusader Kings II stuttering / uses only around 1 GB of Memory

Hi there,

lots of people have the problem that the game uses too much memory. Well, for me, I think, it uses too few, only about 1 GB of the installed 16. I think my PC shouldn't have that extreme problems handling this game. But I get massive stuttering (even early in the game), I can only assume it has to do with the fact, that only about 1 GB RAM is used (which really sounds way too few for all the data that must be handled).

I already tried the performance tweaks in the FAQ. But nothing helped.

I have all DLC installed and running.

System specifications are:
Windows 10 pro 64 bit (clean install)
AMD FX-6100 6x (3.30 GHz)
Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 OC (2 GB RAM)
16 GB RAM
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO

I'm no native speaker, so please excuse me, if I could not express my problem clearly.

Try this i suppose..

rightclick on ck2.exe > properties > compatibility > put a check in run as admin

do the same for the steam exe

thanks for the response, but I tried that already. Different compatibility modes and admin for Steam and CK2. Whatever I do, the game rarely uses more than 1.2 GB of my installed memory.

Well, Win 10 is quite fresh, perhaps the memory management has some problems with my hardware.

Well for one the RAM on the graphics card get used too and you have 2 GB so, but it shouldn't stutter early on (unless right after load and on speed 5).
There sometimes is stutter at the beginning after a game has been loaded though.

Do you maybe have a second graphics card (onboard/chip or such) ?
If so , might be the game uses that instead of your 7850. You would have to specify the card for the game in the Catalyst Control Center.
That's my only idea left, maybe someone else can come up with another idea..

nope, no second graphic card. But I think I found another problem. My GPU gets kind of hot since I upgraded to Win 10 (though the temperature is not near critical yet). According to ATI it is a known issue and should be fixed soon. That could explain the stuttering, but not the low usage of memory.

Perhaps I should just wait for the new graphics drivers.

Yeh, it's probably something to do with Win10.
I'm fine on 7 and wonder why people are so keen on moving to 10 so early without proper drivers and stuff, but each to their own.

Same happens to me even I did manage to get some graphical card stuff it didn't work. You may try to set Multisample level to 0 in Video Settings, make game Borderless to see if that makes your game faster or not. There is also a setting file that you may set trees, etc. to now show up in order to make game faster.
