Yes, primarily to see how long you're going to cry over spilled milk.

Funny how most of the anti-Steam comments are about Steam, and most of the pro-Steam comments are about the people who are anti-Steam.

Kind of annoyed about having to install another program just to run a program I already have installed, but whatever. As long as I can disable auto-update? I like to make a couple minor changes to my defines.lua file and add names to the cultures folder, so as long as I can choose when I update so I can maintain my backups, I'll be happy.

I am neither pro- nor anti-Steam. I am pro-Paradox, and pro-CK2.

I want to play the game. Steam offers me quite good service, and I haven't had any problems with it.

Now I started my Paradox-playing-career long before Steam, bought most of their stuff from GamersGate and did not see any reason to change it. Now I have such a reason, and I find it very commendable of Paradox to offer a free transfer of systems.

I look forward to it, and all I hope for is a precise explanation of how to do it.

Oh, Paradox's stated intention of making the transfer as painless as possible for those who used GG and don't mind switching to Steam is admirable, and reflects how different they are from the industry standard.

I don't agree at all with the decision to dump GG, go full Steam, and not have a direct download option, but I appreciate that they're trying to do the right thing by their customers as they're making that move happen.

It's like people just see whatever they want and never bother to actually look at the history of a conversation.

...

2) Some people expressed their disappointment in that and noted that they won't switch to Steam.

Hmmmm...

Also, I'd like to apologize for clamouring for a non-steam CKII version, hadn't done my research properly :/
Once I've gone Steam, I don't want to play without it anymore. Too easy.
As a former anti-Steam person, i'm fine with this if it's straightforward.

I've accepted the folly of being a luddite.
As one of the filthy few I thank you for that generous offer/gesture, which you guys were in no way obliged to do.
I also can understand why you are dropping GG even if I'm not happy with this decision.
This is awesome news. When???
Well... Ok then... I am not biggest fan from steam but I understand. So how is it gonna go? We will receive keys via e-mail or what? Anyway... Even tough I am not extremely happy at least you are handling it in a very nice and honest way.

It seems to me that the reactions from former GG users range from acceptance tinged with mild disappointment to outright joy. Who are these people who "won't be able to switch"? It's pretty much only you and that German guy with bad English. And even then it seems to me that the argument gets started when people make factually-incorrect, objectively-wrong statements about Steam like you do. And even then, it's just more experienced Steam users attempting to cure you of your incorrectness. But like you said, people see whatever they want, right?

And of course you're able to switch. You just don't want to. But as of right now standing still isn't an option. Get with the times or go away. Piss or get off the pot.

Paradox has made the Steam version a direct download option. Just copy it to another folder once you download it and don't open Steam except for installing and copying over updates.

Uh, 15 minutes to setup a LAN game when I could do it with any of my non-steam games in 5? No thanks. That's a 300% increase in time working to get the game going. . and thats if everything goes smoothly.

No, that's a 200% increase. The total time is 300% of what you're saying the base time is. Calling it a 300% increase would involve double-counting the initial five minutes. Though I don't think that I've ever spent even five minutes to set up a LAN game on or off Steam.

Thanks. To correct my statement, it takes three times as long. I was actually averaging much longer, but when everything went as planned 15 minutes was the norm. I have a few threads detailing the issues.

Have you setup many local area games on EU IV?

Are people really still afraid of Steam in the year 2013?
Get with the times or go away.
He won't do that. As anti-progress as he is, he won't take a step into the "compile it yourself, n00b" ways of the past.
Come to think of it, he SHOULD switch to Linux. It might give him some much-needed perspective.

This is a logical fallacy, it's called Chronological Snobbery and seems to be a favorite among defenders of Steam.

Defense against who? The war is over. Paradox went with Steam. Decision made.

I think it's true, the war is over and my wallet is the winner.

And thus was the term "antisteamite" created, to characterize those who are against Steam.

Also, I was on GG so far and I'm pleased that this game will go full-steam-mode.
BTW (I'm sure many have asked it already) WHEN?

Very disappointing. I don't plan on using Steam, so I guess I'm pretty much done with Paradox now -- I figured that'd happen, but I sort of expected it after CK2, rather than in the middle of it...

While some people seem to have made personal attacks against those arguing against Steam, there have actually been a number of well-reasoned arguments for both the consumer side and Paradox side of the switchover. It's only when these arguments have failed have others made personal attacks.

Wondering the same. Was planing on buying some DLCs for my current GG one, but I won't make any purchases until we get full details on this...

The copy/paste reply to this question seems to be that it's up in the air. We don't know when Paradox will resolve the associated technical issues to make sure the right people get their code. I suggest you allow yourself to purchase any current DLC you want, on the expectation that it'll be a few weeks yet. We certainly haven't had devs interjecting to state otherwise.

I should also mention - this development can be construed as a partial refund of the game for customers unwilling to use Steam. Since you get a Steam code for each of your GG items, you'll be able to sell them on to regain a significant proportion of the value of your game, while also being able to continue playing.

I think the main problem is that you're spreading disinformation and citing incorrect assumptions about what Steam and GG each entail.

I did a lot of looking into Steam when games first starting moving over, and Steam would have to be an entirely different setup now to be acceptable for me.

GG, meanwhile, does not share the fundamental issues of Steam -- such as requiring installation of an active 3rd-party client.

This is a logical fallacy, it's called Chronological Snobbery and seems to be a favorite among defenders of Steam.

A term coined by C.S. Lewis, in some debate with a friend about religion vs physics or something? Quite apt here, I think, since Paradox is as likely to abandon Steam in favor of GG as the bible is to disprove Quantum Mechanics.

I think it's true, the war is over and my wallet is the winner.

I'll assume you mean that you'll be joining us in Steamland, and your wallet will be winning in the upcoming Holiday sale.
