1. What exactly is a checksum, as in like what is it? Now and then I see it changing from one thing to another (without modding anything), but I never figured what and why.

It is every byte of the files of the game calculated together as a number which we then represents as those letters you see. It isn't that complex and is basically just for sanity check between clients

2. Have you ever done a Makedon playthrough? What is the recommended starting action? Repelling the Muslims is a gimme, but I was wondering the method one ought to take.

Doing one right now kind of in a multiplayer I am having myself. Though I am playing as the Deux of Nikaea, Gotta stay a bit original at least.

Oh yeah, so when it changes after playing a game it doesn't mean that something's been screwed up?

It means that the game state has changed, CK2 is based on a really old code base so we don't got all these fancy modern things that EU4 have :happy:

Yes. If localization is missing for a certain language, the game picks the English one and displays that instead.

I don't know if the questions are still answered, but here it goes:

I fought a defensive war for the Maledives yesterday, as Sri Lanka. I went to siege my opponent's capital and I received the ticking attrition until I got a holding.

Is this WAD? It was my understanding, that the armies were supposed to forage on enemy territories, so the ticking supply attrition would limit marching through neutral lands. What am I missing?

You can only forage until a certain amount, they forage from the loot bar, if they can't take more from the loot bar then they can't forage.

Thank you, but I want to transfer my old pre2.1 savegame onto a 2.1.1 map. So I can keep playing with my current progress and just having the Indian kingdoms pop up behind me.

You can open up the save and edit the version number written there, but it will probably crash with 90%'s certainty if you try to load it.

I got it too. I'm hoping it is a hotpatch, but I haven't spotted any info about it yet.

No hot patch yet, it was probably just one of the DLC's updating.

Uh, for some reason i can't reform the Romuva faith in this patch. The pop-up thingy says i can, but clicking on it takes me to the Romuva faith with NO reform religion button on the top left as there should be. Any explanation for this?

Is this confirmation that there is one in development as we speak?

I don't know how this is a serious question. Besides the fact that they seem to be ALWAYS working on some patch or another (granted, eventually they usually slow development on bug patches for the larger content+bug patches), they've been addressing questions about specific bugs that they're fixing all week. I think we can safely say that there is a hotfix patch in the works right now.

But yes, just like Tom said, we are working on a patch to fix foremost the 32 bit memory problem but as well some other problems in script files like the pregnant king and so on.

When I save a game in CK2 now, and open the <game_name>.ck2 file in a text editor, instead of readable text, it is all just encoded symbols. This started happening when I updated to 2.11 from 2.04 (and bought RoI). Is there a way to edit this file? :wacko:

2.1.1 has support for compressed saves to prevent them from growing too large. You can either load up the save, and un-tick the option to use compressed saves or you can open up the save with tools like 7-zip.
