I don't think that's the whole story. I've lost troops even after a war's conclusion.
Raiders or rebels also cause troops to be lost. Also troops that you are hostile to due to their being at war with your overlord.

Is it possible to increase the construction speed of your Palace if you are playing a Merchant Republic? I noticed that it will take 5 years for my latest palace upgrade, so I figured I'd speed it up with my Steward. I am not the Doge right now, just a Patrician, so I first put him on my capital in Palermo. Nothing happened to my construction time. Also tried putting him in Venecia (The Capital of Venice) again nothing happened.
A second, unrelated question: What controls whether I lose men when I disband an army? I know you typically get a warning - but I've noticed, playing as Venice with far-flung territories that I lose men even after I've arrived in my territory. I'm thinking maybe the territories need to be connected to the capital, or maybe the province where they came from by a land route. Also, what if you just own a city but not the entire province? I don't get the warning...
My sister was matrilineally married to the second in line to the throne of the Byzantine Empire. However, all of a sudden, his mother and cousin are ahead of him. Why? He's not celibate or castrated. Is it because he's the heir to a bishopric?

De jure drift: is this correct?
If you're a king, duchies you entirely control outside your kingdoms will drift into your primary kingdom.
If you're an emperor, those duchies will NOT drift into any of your kingdoms. However, entire kingdoms you control outside your empire will drift into your empire.
Does anyone else find that no one tends to join Great Holy Wars called by you as they Fylkir when playing as a Reformed Norse? Great Holy Wars attract decent numbers of participants when called by heads of religion that aren't you (Tengri, Slavic, Zoroastrian, etc..), but when the head of religion is me when playing as a Norse, I get no offers to join and can't seem to call in anyone besides my regular allies.
Is it bugged? Or am I not understanding something. I have no interest in expanding my realm and was hoping to see some random norse Jarl get lucky and gain a huge kingdom... but its been three Great Holy Wars and I ended up having to win them for myself even though I didn't want them.
I've played reformed norse several times but was more interest in winning the kingdoms for myself back then and perhaps didn't notice the lack of participants before. Can anyone confirm? I'm wondering if it's a bug/side-effect of not being able to fight in same wars as your liege despite it being a 'crusade' type war.
Could it be that most of them are your vassals? I think folks are less likely to join wars when already involved in one, and if you started it, they might not join because of that. If it's not ironman, you could try to test this by freeing some of your Norse vassals and seeing if they go for it after that.
Alot of land does belong to me due to my vassals conquering stuff, but there are also fully independent kingdoms of Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Poland that are Reformed Norse (and a whole bunch of independent Dukes conquering stuff around the Mediterranean)... which is why it seemed so odd that absolutely no one joined after 3-4 years of waiting. In order to prevent the ticking warscore reaching 100% I had to finally invade and win it by myself... which seemed somewhat uninteresting and disappointing. It seems highly unlikely that everyone was pre-occupied with something which is what made me think it might be a bug... or I'm just getting really unlucky to have this happen 3 times in a row. If other people aren't experiencing this then I'll assume it was a case of bad luck.

I'm somewhat interested in this myself. I'm currently Orthodox of the Abyssinian Empire. I've seen the Byzantine Empire do Holy Wars, but I've never got an invite to join. Similarly, the Byzantine Empire never seems to join in my holy wars, especially since we're fairly close by. The nations I'm attacking have no problem ganging up against me, so I'm kinda curious here.
So I started as the Republic of Amalfi (now Grand Prince of Italia). I have Republic of Denmark as a vassal with my nephew as Prince Mayor. I grant it independence and save the game then load it. Why can't I now play as Denmark? It says "Can't play as Republic".

It works if your vassals love you, which they really should anyway if you want to successfully run Elective, right? If you're playing a ruler who beats everyone into submission, you're probably better off with Primo, yeah.Is it just me, or is Elective Monarchy a terrible idea if you have multiple king titles? Managing many dukes in multiple elections. Seems like a good way to splinter your own realm quickly.
