Okay, some more family inquiries from myself.
Figured out how to get Adam as the Heir (Gave him an Earldom, and there he was on the succession screen). Unfortunately, his cousin is also an Earl and an obnoxious git to boot (I decided to start pawning off my holdings to family members in the hopes that would increase fertility among them).
Ambitious, Arbitrary, Craven...all around bad apple. He's the Earl of Thormond. I imprisoned him after he made a move against Adam. Now I'm questioning what to do with him. He's married to a claimant to Navarra and has a son - and then he immediately went Celibate afterwards. So he's not going to be contributing anything to the Dynasty outside being a problem.
I can banish him, take his titles and get a hundred gold, but that would mean his three year old son went with him, and my Dynasty still is very thin on male heirs right now. I could just keep him imprisoned until his son was of legal age and then banish him. Or I could execute him, take the opinion hit from the vassals, but the kid gets his county with the hopes he does well with it. Or I could simply just leave him locked up indefinitely.
I've got the option to create the Kingdom of Ireland, but I don't want to take it while he's in a position to cause stability problems. I should also note that if I did banish him, that also gives me a demense hit for holding five counties when my maximum size is two...and I'm flat out of family members to pass out titles to.
On a unrelated note - how do you acquire retinues? I'm Petty King of Tara and a Duke, yet it keeps telling me "You are at your retinue cap" when I go to buy one.
