Yes they will when the tech is spread to them normally over time. It will spread to any county the capital has connections to so even if its not part of your duchy or hold by one of your count vassals it will spread there when time goes by and from those counties it will pass on others again when time goes by.

Note that placing a spymaster on the study technology mission in a county makes that county count as being adjacent to your capital for tech spreading purposes so your tech can spread even to backwater areas if they choose to spy on your county.

So bizarre, because in windows explorer the folder is empty, but in the game window I have save files there.

Just like its mods as standalone versions create their own library folder, i guess so does HIP.
Guess it either creates a seperate HIP folder which has its own save file folder and settings.txt etc or a PB one or such.
So look out for new folders in C:\Users\PAHA\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\

Several mods do create their own subdirectories to prevent conflicts.

This was a character that inherited my realm well into adulthood. There was nothing to indicate his wife was a demon spawn but perhaps she was and "got better" by the time I got to play the character. It's the only time I've seen this happen so I doubt I can reproduce it with any character. I could check the save file to see if that woman had any strange traits, though, I don't know that they would show in there if they aren't showing on her character portrait.

It's not the wife - I'd be suspicious of the child. The Demon-Spawn has been known to be born to Celibate characters, so it might be that childbearing age is also not an issue.

EDIT: I actually have a question as well: I'm playing as the Hashimids (867 start) and doing quite well considering my n00bishness - almost all of the Peninsula is mine, and most of the Horn of Africa. So I plan an invasion of Abissynia, and I'm wondering this:

With the new levy rules concerning de jure duchies and empires, if I'd create the Abissynian Empire that would be terrible on my troop numbers, as most of my holdings are around Mecca-Medina (and thus outside the de jure Empire) right? So I should aim at destroying the Caliphate before creating the Abissynian Empire?

When a king vassal in an empire, why do the CoAs of my duke vassals not show up in their capital holdings on the map?

Only CoAs of independent characters or direct vassals show up.

i.e. the same reason the CoAs of your count vassals don't show up when you're a vassal duke.

EDIT: I actually have a question as well: I'm playing as the Hashimids (867 start) and doing quite well considering my n00bishness - almost all of the Peninsula is mine, and most of the Horn of Africa. So I plan an invasion of Abissynia, and I'm wondering this:

The Caliphate has no de-jure area at all, so it can hardly affect your troop numbers negatively, I suppose.

I'm seeing my sons getting strong claims on my empire and kingdoms. Why is that? I thought they only got the claims when the owner died.

Never mind, I see now it's 2nd and 3rd in line (doesn't have to be a son) to title holder get strong claims so even my son's son has one.

I have an Agnatic Primo Empire and Kingdom. If I want a female to inherit both do I have to change the laws for both or does the Empire change also change the Kingdom?

Is it just me, or it is much more difficult to form Hispaniola currently? I played awhile back, and the Muslim faction in Iberia would constantly suffer from internal wars, and I could swoop in and grab a couple of provinces. This time around though, I'm hardly seeing any internal fighting for Umayyad. Anyone else notice this? Wondering if they're just fortunate this game, or if DLC/patches have changed things.

(running latest version on steam, all DLC except the Rajas)

Hi guys, 100% sure this would have been answered a million times but i cant put my hand on it even with the search feature. IMO restoring roman empire at glacial pace def doesnt deserve new thread!
im doing the obligatory 'restore roman empire' playthrough I was really hoping to have it wrapped up by year 1000 and everything looked attainable as i was starting the invasion of hispania (umayyads were as far as i could tell last puzzle piece i needed) in about 988. Its now 1005 and im struggling to find what I've missed and im wondering whats required in the middle east.
So far I've had the events for:
Italy
Gaul
Hispania
Egypt
Syria
Brittania
The west coast of balkans (one that mentions being a good source of recruits for further conquests)
And the North Africa region
(may have been more in regions closer to byz empire but those are the recent ones i remember)
I assume if that event fires you are done in that area for reclaiming the borders?
I've done the usual searches as much as possible for independent barons etc (found one in each of Italy, Spain and Syria)
I guess what i need to know is is mesopotamia required? the overland routes down to west africa? or should i be concentrating on finding parasites that ive missed.

Am I understanding correctly how to take advantage of inviting claimants to my court to expand empire

1. Find a person that has a claim to a Duschy/Count/Kingdom
2. Invite said person to court
3. Marry it to someone of my lineage (i.e. a kinsman)
4. Then the child of 2 of them will have claim to another territory and if we win the war, he'll get it and become my vassal?

Is that how it works? And do I need to give a landed title to the guy i initially invite to court?

Is that how it works? And do I need to give a landed title to the guy i initially invite to court?

1) If you press a courtier or vassal's claim to a title that is equal or higher than your current rank they will get the title but not join your realm (and will leave, taking the land with them if they are a vassal)
2) If you press a courtier's claim to a lower tier title that is not de jure part of your realm then they will get the title but the lands won't be joined to your realm UNLESS the courtier is of your dynasty
3) If you press a courtier's claim to a title that is de jure part of your realm they will get the title and become your vassal
4) If you press a vassal's claim then they will remain your vassal and add the lands to your realm (except in case #1)

Thus it depends on where the lands you are targeting are as to how to proceed. If it is de jure territory there's no reason not to just invite the claimant then go to war for the claim. If it isn't de jure territory you can either land the claimant then press the claim or marry the claimant to a dynasty member (matrilineally if the claimant is a male) and wait for a child of your dynasty to inherit the claim. Note though, not all claims can be inherited so check that before wasting time and effort getting a claimant to your court.

Thanks so much, that makes a lot of sense. So basically when it comes to these stray people that I invite to my court, I have the option of:

1. Landing them and then pressing the claim right away (as per your #4)
2. Marrying them matrilineally and then pressing a generation later. Does he need to be landed in this case?

I guess what i need to know is is mesopotamia required? the overland routes down to west africa? or should i be concentrating on finding parasites that ive missed.

haha thanks, I found it seems there was another barony in Tunisia.

Roughly what year do the Aztecs come. i'm thinking I can extend this play through and get the not letting them get landed achievement.

i.e. the same reason the CoAs of your count vassals don't show up when you're a vassal duke.

The Caliphate has no de-jure area at all, so it can hardly affect your troop numbers negatively, I suppose.

As it happens, the Abbasid Caliph is also the Arabian Empire title holder. So, to reiterate: will I be better off conquering the Abissynians, then the Arab Empire, and usurping the Arab title firstN to make Abissynia my secondary title, as opposed to forming Abissynia before claiming Arabia?
