Is there another way then sending my court chaplain to all those church vassals to reduce their opinion of the pope? Most of them like him and me with 100 points, denying me my precious money.
Only thing I can think of are antipopes, which seems a little harsh.

Not easily. Can always kill the current Pope, though. The new Pope will likely have different characteristics, lower piety, etc that might result in all of them liking him less.

Currently a Count. What are my routes to becoming a Duke?

I tried forging a claim a couple of times. I currently have a strong claim on Zagreb, but I can't go to war with them because they're not independant? Am I limited to waiting for a lord to declare themselves independant and then sending my chancellor to forge a claim there?

How long do claims last? My claim on Zagreb is still good, even though it was forged years ago. Is it worth to try to forge claims in as many nearby territories as possible on the chance I could make a claim?

Pagans don't automaticly convert they need to be converted and they will not always convert. Zealot character never converts for example.

well I doubt every Arpad king since 900 has been a zealot, in fact I'm pretty sure the current one isn't

You have conquest - through claim-fabricating or a holy war - or marriage - marrying a relative of a duke such as his sister or a daughter, providing they have inheritable claims and are not 45+.

I tried forging a claim a couple of times. I currently have a strong claim on Zagreb, but I can't go to war with them because they're not independant? Am I limited to waiting for a lord to declare themselves independant and then sending my chancellor to forge a claim there?

Whenever you declare war, you have to declare war on someone who is either independent or has the same liege as you (eg. Duke of York can attack the Duke of Somerset, but the Holy Roman Emperor cannot attack either of them. He would have to declare war on the King of England if he had, say, a personal claim on the duchy of York.) If it's displaying something like

([color=red]X[/color]) Count Whoever of Zagreb is not independent

then you have to declare war on his liege for Zagreb. Presumably that would be the king of Croatia.

Claims last until you die. Forged ones won't be passed on to your offspring, and they don't expire without a character dying.

You can't declare war on characters who are not independent, but you can declare war on their liege to get your claim recognized. Check who the ultimate liege of Zagreb is, click "declare war" and see your options.

As for your claim, it will last until you die.

There's a stickied thread in Tech Support that lists, among other things, the DLC by number. I forget its name, but it has "DLC numbers" or something similar in the name, so it shouldn't take you very long to find it.

EDIT: "Windowed mode, performance boost, file locations, DLC names/numbers" is the thread's name.

Ok, so how does this work exactly? If I conquer x number of provinces? All provinces in the a duchy? Is it automatic, or is there something specific I need to do afterwards?

Either use your chancellor to fabricate claims on at least half the counties, press the claims (you can press multiple personal claims in a single war) in war, then usurp the duchy from the current holder - you'll be given a notification at the top of the screen that a title can be usurped.

or

fabricate a claim on the duchy using the chancellor, and push it (unlikely to happen and expensive)

or

gain a claim through marriage and push it (takes a while - at least a generation).

A minor question. How do I get traits like Falconer or Gardener? I keep getting an event where my Falconer approaches me with a new bird. I can either tell him I'm busy for 15 Prestige, or go Falconing him or improved relations. The second option doesn't seem to yield the Falconer trait.

There can be a follow-up event, event 5046, with a mean time to happen of 36 months.

As for gardener, for example, you can get an event where your enemy's envoys show up. You can injure them or give them roses. If you give them roses there's a chance you'll get a follow-up event to gain the gardener trait. All the lifestyle trait events are in events/lifestyle_event.txt.

Falconer happens with the event where you can chose to go normal or falcon hunting. Then if you are lucky you might like it and become falconer or hunter. Its basicly random with 50% change of liking and not liking it. You have to be older than 25, male, not jain, not leading troops and not have lifestyle trait yet. Garnerer also happens by event where you have annoying neighbor who you have an option to send roses or be very cruel to his envoies. This is easier to get by just chosing the obvious not cruel options. If you want the impaler trait then just chose the crueler options. For this event to trigger you need to be over 25 years old, not leading troops and not have a lifestyle trait.

Click on your character. At the bottom of his page - by default on the "Family" tab, to the right of the "Parents" and "Grandparents" there should be "Wards".
