I'm finally getting the hang of this awesome game, but I'm having a hard time figuring out why I can't create a certain title (duke of Skåne).

I fulfill the explicit requirements; I control three of four counties, have enough gold, my liege is king of Denmark.

However, when I mouse over the greyed out "create title" button, it says with read letters: "Cannot create or usurp a title of the same or higher rank as our liege's".

Is this a bug or are there other factors in play?

It's version 2.0.4 and I just read that save games prior to 2.1.1 wont work if I update.

Firstly, are you using any mods?

Secondly, is it a title that your liege (i.e. the King of Denmark) holds?

Thirdly, is the Duke of Skåne ruling over you as his direct vassal, whilst also being the King of Denmark?

Also, yes, you're right about savegames not being compatible if you move from 2.0.4 to 2.1.x.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm not using any mods. The title doesn't exist, but is de jure. If that makes sense. That should also answer the third question, I think.

Oh of course. I'm playing The Old Gods, so 800-something.

Is your liege actually the King of Denmark yet, or just the Petty King of Sjælland or another "Kingdom" in de jure Denmark? Because if he's a Petty King, then he's actually just a Duke with a different name for his rank, meaning that you can't create a Duchy because your liege himself is only a duke.

If that's the case, then all you need to do is wait until either a) your liege forms Denmark or b) a King-tier ruler annexes your liege's lands, at which point you'll be able to create the title.

If that's not the case, then I'm baffled. If you have a screenshot of the Independent Realms mapmode in your general area, or just any screenshots, then that'd be handy.

Thanks man! I think you got it. He's only king of Sjælland. :)

There's your answer, then. Either get independence from him or wait and see what happens.

Good luck. :)

Nope I have primogeniture active. Both are legitimate children. The only thing I can think of which may have caused it is that I went to war for my wife's claim on a bit of land which I won but she won't become my vassal and the eldest child is heir to her land but I can't understand why that would impact him getting land from me particularly because my wife is only a count where as I'm a duke.

Edit: He doesn't even appear as a future pretender to the throne.

2. Technology affects your capital. Do you intend to keep Pecs as your capital?

This is my first game, so I'm probably not going to expand too much, so I'll keep Pecs as my capital.

Last question for now. Is there a way to play as a courtier? One my favorite games was RoTK VIII, and one of the things you could do was wander between pronvinces and train yourself before swearing allegiance to a lord. I'm curious if that something you could do here as well.

If you try to play a character without a title, you will get the game over screen. So no.

Greetings!
So I was under the impression that a crusade won will give the target kingdom title and de jure land of the title under the titles ex-ruler.
Now I just had a crusade for Pommeranai and I had like 96% contribution, still the target king kept the title and the land under the title wen to the norse pagan ruler of Sweden. Why is that?
here are two screenshots:

The pictures are 'not found', so was this a misunderstanding or did you actualy get this outcome and on which patch are you playing ?

Are the Indian archer + war elephants retinues total garbage? I have a 4000 large retinue made up of those and they are getting demolished by levies 1/4 in size in favourable terrain. I'm losing 1500 to 2000 while killing maybe 200, it's that bad. I thought it was bad luck at first but it's been consistent for a century now.

Pretty much. Due to its high percentage of Archers, there's a very high risk of getting Charge on Undefended tactic after 3/10/12/18 days of combat... if it happens, most of your Archers are screwed. War Elephants do have access to some really nice tactics, but it's basically hit-or-miss.

Gotcha, switching back to the old heavy infantry horde.

Didn't know about the indian archers. I wondere if there's a strategy to minimise the chance of "charge on undefended flank".
Only by adding non archer troops ? A combat trait for the flank leader ?

Nope I have primogeniture active. Both are legitimate children. The only thing I can think of which may have caused it is that I went to war for my wife's claim on a bit of land which I won but she won't become my vassal and the eldest child is heir to her land but I can't understand why that would impact him getting land from me particularly because my wife is only a count where as I'm a duke.

Edit: He doesn't even appear as a future pretender to the throne.
Does your or your wife's realm have high/absolute CA? Are both sons born by your current wife? Those are the only reasons I can think of.
