As Serene Doge of Venice in 967, I'm asking male courtiers to take vows in order to free up space in my court. Some of them remain and become monks, while others leave and join holy orders. Anyone know the criteria for which option happens to which courtier? Can't seem to find a pattern here.

Martial skill and specifically martial education. Those folks will join the holy orders.

Can't find an event for random courtiers, but for relatives, being Chaste, Zealous, Homosexual, under 25, Content or Celibate all help to lower the chance. You might have better luck marrying them off matrilinearly.

It's not event based if you ORDER them to take the vows. It's diplomacy-triggered.

Ordering the vows just gives 'em the Monk trait, disqualifying them from inheritance and marriage, them going off to join a Holy Order is an event.

Don't think this is an option for Republics.

Ah, my bad. Then serial murder seems the way :p

So if I have vassals in the Kingdom of Jerusalem that aren't also my vassals back in England, they won't have any more of an increase of revolt? I know that used to be the case.

They are more inclined to start or join an independence faction.

So is it worth the bother to find dukes back at home to take over the counties?

I guess it could be in some cases. But strong dukes from back home can still hate you and still join factions.

Ordering the vows just gives 'em the Monk trait, disqualifying them from inheritance and marriage, them going off to join a Holy Order is an event.

Incorrect. Ordering them to take the vows SOMETIMES just gives the the Monk trait and SOMETIMES sends them off to a Holy Order (for martially skilled males). I have routinely sent excess dynasty members off to holy orders by educating them martially and then ordering them to take the vows. Can also do it with any martial guy you don't want.

Edit: It also CAN be an event, the one you already pointed out, where a close dynasty member asks to be allowed to leave.

Can i choose the looks of my units?
Nope. The unit avatar is chosen by weighted quantity of unit composition, as outlined by the defines.lua file.

Code:
	LIGHT_INFANTRY_GRAPHICAL_FACTOR = 1,
	HEAVY_INFANTRY_GRAPHICAL_FACTOR = 1.25,
	PIKEMEN_GRAPHICAL_FACTOR = 1.5,
	LIGHT_CAVALRY_GRAPHICAL_FACTOR = 1,
	KNIGHTS_GRAPHICAL_FACTOR = 3,
	ARCHERS_GRAPHICAL_FACTOR = 1,
	SPECIAL_TROOPS_GRAPHICAL_FACTOR = 20.0,

If i have 60% archers and 40% elephants, for example, can i choose the unit to be an elephant? I feel like i never get to see the units i have less of.
Bad example. Special units like War Elephants, Horse Archers, and Camel Cavalry have a ridiculously disproportionate weight... so even a small percentage of War Elephant is likely to steal the spotlight.

If I want my chancellor to fabricate a claim on a duchy, do I need to put him in the ducal capital or does any county work? What if the county is controlled by another duchy?

If I recruit a retinue of Longbowmen, and later on improve a building in my capital which gives +15% attack for archers, will it affect my already existing retinues?

So, I attacked the pope as Byzantine Empire because I wanted to mend the schism but when I enforced demands he still held on to 2 baronies but he himself doesn't hold any land so I can't attack him and so I can't mend the schism or form the empire. I'm playing vanilla 2.1.4.
