When i handed the counties out to zealous people, i got a lot of messages saying "my liege, my county has converted" (they differ from the bishop message, cause there he says "my mission was a succes). But offocurs, those people die and less zealous people take their place.

At the moment, its about 40% converted, but buddhism and hindu are quite strong it seems

I think that message occurs when your vassal has sent their court chaplain (or equivalent) to proselytize in the county. So you don't get the same message because your court chaplain isn't doing the proselytizing, but there's still a court chaplain there proselytizing.

And why does the Ecumenical Patriarch have the "Vasall King" Modifier? He is a king right, but he is not the pope, without the Emperor of East Rome he would be nothing, wouldn´t he?

But the Ecumenical Patriarchy is still a King-level vassal, and as such they have the vassal King modifier since he is, for all intents and purposes, a the 'King' of a theocracy.

hey guys quick question here,

Im playing as Saffarid, and in order to form Persian Empire, I need to take all titles from Iraq (Mesopotamia) which the Abbasids control.

Trouble is the only war options I have are just to take single counties, and then the expected long truce time, which would take forever.

Is there a way to get "invasion of Mesopotamia" or something? We are both Sunni Muslim

Sunni invasions are only against other religions. You can push multiple strong claims at once, so one option is to fabricate multiple claims in between each war. Otherwise, use claimants to duchies instead. If the claimant is of your dynasty or is landed in your realm, pushing their claim should result in them staying in your realm. Since you'll probably be dealing mostly with weak claimants, you may need to make use of assassinate as well. Beyond this, the only other option is to switch religions (either to a heresy or another religion entirely) and use Holy Wars.

Very likely, but there is also another message type: "people of province X have embraced religion Y". So there must be somesort of spontaneous process going on as well, but the mechanics of it (how much MA matters, orthe skills of the local ruler, the influence of neighbouring provinces) elude me at the moment.

Unrelated question. Suppose an empire has no de jure territory left because of de jure drift. can it still be created?

Guessing that is the priest in the province converting. If you have a temple in a province the priest has a chance of converting it as well.

Can I ask how this happened? First time I hear the Pope becoming a vassal of the ERE.

Sorry for not answering but I have no clue :(

I have no idea really, I was too busy fighting holy wars and creating a huge Lithuanian Kingdom... I just suddenly noticed that the tooltip on my vassal screen informed me that they were paying 'Basileus blah blah'. I have no idea how the ERE became Catholic and got control of Rome or why they had an antipope when they also had the real pope as a vassal.

But to answer my own question since I've solved it now: I had to switch to free investiture and prop up an antipope. I then had to become and empire and press his claim on the Papacy to ensure he would become a vassal of mine. Was a pretty tough war since it was around 80k vs 70k troops. Thankfully no other Catholic ruler came to their aid... I think they may not have even be able to join as it wasn't exactly like attacking the Papacy itself.

Is there a reason why only Norse can traverse the rivers? I'm somewhat sure that pretty much everyone used rivers for travelling and transporting the troops during the time.

When do the Normans usually come in from the 867 start?

There's not really a "usual" here. If Vikings (Norse culture) land in France (culture = frankish, breton, occitan), there is a culture mixing event to create Norman culture. Since Breton is included, you can actually end up with it in Cornwall as well. If this doesn't happen, you'll never see a Norman.

I have primogeniture as a succession law. I had a son and then my wife died, I got remarried and had a second son. When he was born he was designated my successor. My first son was landed. WoD or not?

And another one:

I have heard that zealous characters convert their provinces to their religion faster. Can anybody post a layout of skills and traits correlation to provinces plz?

EDIT: And another one :p

Is it better to hold duchies as a king/emperor or just cities? Or all in all whats the optimal title holding?
Should I always be below the 'holds too many duchies' threshold? Or it depends?

And any advice on how to turn around the homosexual trait?

Why do computer controlled raiders always return to their ships simply to leave the ships to go to a province that was adjacent to the province they were already in? Am I raiding incorrectly by just marching to the neighboring province to plunder?

I believe it's usually faster that way. Though I could be wrong, since I think they decreased embarking speed.

When Im at the court of my liege, I cant assign myself to be the guardian of my children. Did it always work like that ?

Nope. It's part of a far-reaching bug regarding guardians and wards.

1. I have primogeniture as a succession law. I had a son and then my wife died, I got remarried and had a second son. When he was born he was designated my successor. My first son was landed. WoD or not?

2. I have heard that zealous characters convert their provinces to their religion faster. Can anybody post a layout of skills and traits correlation to provinces plz?

3. Is it better to hold duchies as a king/emperor or just cities? Or all in all whats the optimal title holding?
Should I always be below the 'holds too many duchies' threshold? Or it depends?

4. And any advice on how to turn around the homosexual trait?

1. Are you playing Byzantium by any chance? If your first son was born before you became Emperor, and your second son after, the second son's "born in the purple" trait will trump the first one's claim. You can get around it by assigning the first one a despot title.

2. Too long to post, see crusader kings ii\events\job_lord_spiritual.txt. The short answer is no, being zealous doesn't affect your chances.

3. Lawdy. This is the quick answers thread. Anything I post is likely to be challenged seven ways, and rightly so. My answer is that unless you are king of a very small realm indeed, holding any type of sub-holding (be it castle, city or temple) is wasteful. However - and this is more important - as you generally have a two-duchy limit before your vassals start getting annoyed (let us stretch that to three, if you wish), holding appropriate-type sub-holdings does make sense. It all depends: if your two duchies comprise six counties, and it is late game, you should be holding an extra castle or two. But if they comprise ten counties, then baronies are probably too much. But as a "normal" feudal ruler, you certainly shouldn't be holding cities. EDIT: I just did a Google search and there are numerous threads on this topic. I suggest you do the same.

4. IIRC, the only way to remove the homosexual trait is by chance, and that only if you are currently a child - an event that is much more likely if your guardian is zealous.

Sure you're not running Ultimogeniture? Are you a vassal? Is your heir landed in another kingdom? Is your liege running high/max crown authority? This would prevent him from gaining titles since titles cannot leave the realm under high crown authority.

Is it better to hold duchies as a king/emperor or just cities? Or all in all whats the optimal title holding?
Should I always be below the 'holds too many duchies' threshold? Or it depends?

You can hold 2 duchies at max without opinion penalty at King or Emperor level. I usually just keep 1 duchy title since I often run Elective Succession - holding 2 duchies generates a 'too many elector titles held' penalty. When running something else I keep 2 duchies and destroy any others in which I have counties to avoid the 'too many held duchies' penalty. I often even destroy kingdom titles so that my vassals outside my primary title don't get the 'desires kingdom of X' penalty.

Ok thanks both of you. Emre had it right, on the succession it was a born in purple case. I forgot about that.

This game has so many things in it. Does anybody know what is it that affects the creation of a Republic?

I just reconquered Jerusalem, after losing it in a war. I recreate the duchy (presumably destroyed by the Abbasid) and appointing a Greek Orthodox dux and blam...Republic of Jerusalem...Not that I complain or anything.

EDIT: I think it must have happened because I appointed the mayor of the city as a dux?

Yes, a mayor will become a ducal-level mayor. If his capital is a coastal city, this is a Republic.

When I start the game up I get two white lines on the left side of the screen going from the top to the bottom. When the game loads the white lines fill with green, there's also a green box next to the white lines. Ive tried reinstalling the game several times and deleting all files to no effect. I would appreciate any help on removing these strange visuals.
