Playing as Cumans and looking to reform the Tengri religion. Is there some tooltip somewhere that tells me how to do this? I cannot see anything on the religion tab that tells me what I need to obtain although I am probably missing something really obvious!

You're not missing something really obvious, the button was accidentally vanished when patch 2.1.1 was released. The forum is waiting on a hotfix for the problem.

Sorry is this has been mentioned somewhere else already, but I can only enter a search time every 60 seconds, and I am tired of waiting. :)

I noticed in let's plays that the cheapest mercenaries cost 75. However in my game the cheapest ones cost 150. I tried googling for an answer too, but I can't find any. Can anyone tell me if this is how it is supposed to be? Were mercenaries nerfed?

Mercs have a position on the map, if you are too far away or the wrong religion they can't be hired.

Still don't quite understand this:

What determines who I can marry? Specifically, when I click the wedding rings icon, the people that populate the window that opens up... what criteria was used to populate that window? At the moment I click that, and it's completely empty, even though I have a courtier who is single and of age. Why do I not have any options?

I'm the Byzantine Emperor right and I can push claims of at least three of my kin on three kingdoms. Should I do it and have vassel kings (I already have two, after pushing their claims)?

Yes, do it. Worst case scenario is that you simply revoke the Kingdom titles after you have won (if they start to get unruly).

Is there any way to get foreign vassals to vote yes on raising crown law?

Created the HRE by decision and it starts at zero crown law, tried increasing it but a little less then half of the kingdom is owned by another kingdom and they're all voting no to it. Also a couple of my vassals vote no even when I have 100 relations with them.

I was trying to edit a save game file for the first time, just to play around with it and see what I could do, but every time I open up a new save game file it comes out as an indecipherable mess of gibberish.

messedup_zpsd2e78df9.png~original

This screenshot is in Notepad++ but I also tried Wordpad to no avail. I opened up the file in "\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\Save Games" which, to my understanding, is the right directory. Has editing save games been disabled in the new patch, or did I miss a step somewhere?

Thanks!

So since RoI I've been trying out Muslim rulers and the new decadence mechanic in Ironman. I started as the Shia Count of Dhu Zabi, a vassal of the Sunni Caliph and I'm now the Emir of Oman. I'm fairly strong, but I'm the only Shia ruler in the game so far. Right next to me is an independent Sunni Emir who's also fairly strong. However, since he's Sunni, I have the option to 'invade Arabia' (the kingdom both he and I are dejure part of).

My first question is, if I do go to war and invade him, which Sunni leaders will be able to join him in defending? Will it only be independent Sunni rulers, or could other vassals of my liege, the Sunni Calpih also join the war against me?

My second question is, when, if ever, will the Shia Pretender event trigger? It's now around 930ish, but Shia is just dying out really fast. I'm wondering, because I may be able to work my way into becoming Shia Caliph myself if it doesn't get an event.

Only half right. The menu that pops up when you click the rings lists potential brides/grooms that will say yes to a proposal from your character. This behavior continues if you check the matrilineal box. By default the list is sorted with highest rank (kings/related to kings) first then descending to courtiers. As you mentioned, lowborn generally aren't listed due to the massive prestige penalty involved.
