I started in Iron century and created HRE. I purposefully lost my election since I wanted to create Grand Dutchy of Swabia. The current emperor is now 61 years old and he is about to die any year now. I thought it would be an great idea to win it back peacefully. However, as I bought favors I noticed that I can't call in succession favors. I'm not allowed because "Both characters needs to be electors of at least one title in common" isn't fulfilled.
So my question is why? Is it because I created the Grand Duchy?
Yeah, this already came up, for whatever reason the stem (grand) duchies are not considered de jure vassals of the HRE and as such are limited in the election process. So my question is why? Is it because I created the Grand Duchy?

Yeah, a similar problem came up not too long ago (I think it was Swabia, though.)??
You sure ?
Yup, that was brought up back then too.You do know that with patch 3.0 we got princely elective succession and that only has a handful of specific electors
Nah, the thing is that you need to be de jure vassal to even be considered to be the Kaiser. (there may have been exceptions, I don't remember exactly.)and not every single de-jure duke or king as before ?
Thus the question by Karlington.

Yeah, that's the afore mentioned limitations in the election process.I talked about electors.
The tooltip can be misleading as has been so often the case in CK2, thus the question of being an elector and not about the candidacy.
I would want to know too from FoliFF.
I'm trying to "fake-trigger" the Crusades by giving away Provence (which I own) to a non-Christian, however there is noone in my realm at all, not even a single Jew, and nobody I can invite. Is there anything I can do to attract someone with foreign religion?
The sea holds many secrets.Good question! I wish I had an answer.![]()

That may have something to do with Theocracy and/or the Cardinals. Not saying it's a GOOD something or defending it, but that would be my guess.I guess this explains it. But at the same time it's weird since in the duchy windows it is considered part of HRE. Another thing that is weird that I noticed in my game is that As an emperor I can call in succession favors as long they are are regular dukes but not when they are prince-bishopric. Is this working as intended or is another anomaly?

You could look for a courtier that can be invited, whose spouse's religion is one that you can use. Generally this will only work when the spouse is inferior (i.e. if the husband is the wrong religion, the wife won't move, but around the other way you get both). You may need to find a matrilineal marriage if you aren't able to give titles to unlanded women. Or use them as a tutor.People from other religious groups will never accept an invite. You'd have to use a favor to get them over.

Can you trigger a crusade this way if the target character is heretical? Heresy can be invited as it's within your religious group.
Sympathy with another religion *might* allow invites, as it does for marriage.
Random Court Physicians are often infidels. You could save scum until you get one. They might not be able to be landed, but can be used to educate a kid that can be.
Jewish councillors are totally random, so there's no real way of relying on them. But not uncommon.
Otherwise there's always conversion, invite, and reconversion back.
? Since when? I do it all the tíme. Mainly to get good commanders.People from other religious groups will never accept an invite. You'd have to use a favor to get them over.
Not the same religious Group. Such as a Catholic inviting a Muslim. Inviting Orthodox, Nestorian or a heresy is fine.? Since when? I do it all the tíme. Mainly to get good commanders.
