The wiki says you can never create the Golden Horde . :( But , apparently , the AI CAN create it.

So...... in your long experience playing the 1066 start , does the AI typically --

-- sometimes creates the Golden Horde

-- Often creates the Golden Horde

-- Never creates the Golden Horde

?

and , if it does , could Taoist Han Chinese somehow take the cool empire name and heraldry and keep it ?

I'm having an issue with a vassalized Holy Order that I'm hoping someone can help me understand. I can't tell if this is a game mechanic where I'm just not IDing what is happening or a bug that I should find some way to console/savegame edit away to restore correctness.

Game version notes - no mods, have most of the major DLCs except for Conclave.

I'm the Holy Roman Emperor, and just won a Crusade for Jerusalem. Following the Crusade, I immediately executed the decision to vassalize both of the available Holy Orders via decision that I had available - the Hospitaliers and the Templars. I already had the Knights of Calatrava, so I now have 3 vassalized Holy Orders. I defended successfully against the first Jihad (Shia, the Mahdi Sultanate), but noticed that I could not raise the Templars when the time came. On the Holy Order screen, the term "Raise" is greyed out, and it states that the army has already been raised. Except that I currently have no troops in the field other than my retinues, and the Knights Templar do not appear to be fighting anyone at the moment based on the lack of conflicts on the Grandmaster's character screen.
Holy Orders Screen.png Grandmaster Screen.png

What am I missing here? I'm expecting the Sunni Jihad any month now, as soon as the Abbasid blob finishes with an internal tyranny revolt that is not significant enough for me to wade in and peel off anything of note via Holy War while my forces recuperate from the recent crusade. Is there some 3rd party conflict going on somewhere that is involving the Templars, and if so, how do I figure that out so I know when they will be available to me? My other two Holy Orders combined don't match the strength of the Templars, so I can't effectively put a Holy Order stack together to attack the Muslim powers without them in the fold, and based on the previous decision I've earned their service. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My character is currently on kowtow (Crusade put me in range of China, and I'm hoping to get enough grace to bring them down on the Abbasids to ensure my long-term security), but this problem existed prior to that.

....simply got hired by someone else before you vassalised them and as it appears
(see the shield icon to the right), that someone is the Teutonic order.

Ah, I'd never noticed that shield before. The Teutonic order has been in a state of constant war since before the initial crusade for Jerusalem, so that makes sense. I may need to intervene in those wars just to free up the Templar troops that I will need desperately against the Green Blob soon...

There were added in with patch..not sure, but not an ancient feature either, so maybe that's why you didn't notice them.
Have fun helping the Teutonic Order.

It's been a while since I last played but are the event hordes still in the game? Seljuks, Mongols, etc.... How well do they do in the current version? Are the Mongols tied to events in China (with the DLC?).

Hordes are still in the game, or at least some of them. Note that I play with defensive pacts on and without horse lords, both factors which probably have quite the effect on some hordes.

Recently I've seen the Seljuks and Ghaznavids in earlier starts, and Temujin in every game i've played to the early 13th century. I have never seen the Rise of the Sultanate of Rum or the Timurids.

Seljuk appears in about 30%, maybe 20% of all my pre 1066 games. When he does, odds about even split that he'll achieve much of anything beyond taking his first duchy, although I have seen the seljukids rise to become a major power on rare occasions. The fact that they almost systematically fail to expand south- or westward might be why I haven't ever seen the sultanate of rum events : the conditions are just too rarely met.

Sabuktigin and his Ghaznavids are something else. They appear even more rarely (might be as low as 10% of my pre-1066 games), and usually by taking half a duchy at most, in eastern rajastan, surrounded by hindus, and with just regular adventurer event troops ...It usually doesn't work out well, and less than a century later they're gone without a trace. I have on only one occasion seen them achieve any form of success. They succesfully held a couple kingdoms in Rajasthan and remained there for a couple centuries before being decadence warred. That was a weird game though, as prior to their appearance a random muslim adventurer had conquered and formed a large realm in bengal, and helped them quite a bit.

Temujin always appears and is always fairly succesful in taking the steppe, along with sometimes tibet, sometimes persia, sometimes India. Then he gets too big and crashes his troops into continental defensive pacts, leaving him (usually) powerless to expand any more but too stable to shatter. I suppose he'd shatter sooner or later if he spawns as any sort of muslim. If he's tengri he might very well reform the faith. I've also had him spawn as taoist when playing the latin empire bookmark, and he just made a beeline for russia through the northest reaches of the map and then sat there doing nothing. Weird game overall.

IIRC, the Timurids require a mongol ruler in persia to fire, so it relies on Temujin to actually succeeding in conquering vast territories, so that Mongols can hold out in Khiva or Samarkhand until the late 1300s.

I started as a Buddhist Brahmin and I'd like my heir to be Kshatriya to avoid the Hindu opinion modifier. I married him to Kshatriya but the son is still Brahmin. Is there a way to get Kshatriya heirs?

I have two questions:

1. Can I get caught and get branded apostate by the court chaplain of my liege if I have secret religion, but I'm not member of secret cult?

2. How to get other vassals to join my faction (to press my claim on liege's title)? Is the "Build Spy Network" spymaster mission the only way to encourage them to join my faction or is there other way.

You can also use favours to force them to join the faction

Please remind me of the keyboard shortcut that does: "Return to the Immediately Previous Screen" (doesn't seem to be listed on the wiki page for shortcuts?)

Example: You're in the Military/Mercenaries screen and you click on a portrait to check a guy's stats. What button lets me jump straight back to the list of Mercenaries?

Thanks in advance. :)

Edit: Never mind. It is 'b' for 'back'. (duh!)

So to create a merchant republic from a tribe I need to be independent or not? The tooltip does not mention that but I'm afraid that if I swear fealty to King of Poland (Slavic) that I won't be able to form it. I'm currently Slavic and waiting for a catholic missionary or if Poland manages to capture one more Holy site and reforms...

Currently it doesn't work if you are someone's vassal. I don't know what the thought process behind it is however, so I don't know if it is working as designed or not.

It does work. The issue is that it seems to lock you to the government type of the highest tier ruler. You can go from tribe to MR if you're a Duke, and if you're independent OR a vassal of a MR (which the AI rarely seems to form kingdom tier republics).

Ok everybody, I want to invade China.

As far as I know, when you choose to invade, the troops that China will spawn are almost 150% of your army size. Is that correct? If that is true, I was thinking about some strategies to deal with that:

My empire has some duchy titles waiting to be created. When the right moment appears, before the declaration of war, I was thinking in create 6 or 7 duchies. So, I will get the "Too many held duchies" penalty (close to -70 opinion of vassals). This will reduce my army size considerably since the vassals will be unhappy. Then, with this penalty I'll declare the invasion, wait to China spawn their troops and then give these duchies to my vassals and bribe them too, so I'll recover my entire army size and have to deal with a chinese army significantly smaller. Is that a good and effective strategy (although not very honorable)?
