3 I had started an iroman game, then I've purchased a DLC ( Sunset Invasion) and I've let
inadvertently it be installed. Is there a possibility that It has corrupted my ironman savegames?
It shouldn't have. In theory the patch already installed everything that should have made a difference to the save file, and the DLC only unlocked it for you. But Sunset is a bit weird (I don't have it) so I can't tell.

My own question:

Is there any way to play as a Merchant republic in the Indian Ocean, without breaking Ironman?

Yes, but depending on where you wan't to play you might have to do some brutal stuff, the simplest option (which i can confirm work because i'm in the middle of a similar playthrough) is to start as a Coastal Tribal Count in Yemen(in 769 and 867 start date only)
There's also the few Tribal Muslim in the Arabian Peninsula or Tribal Miaphysite in Ethiopia(Even in 1066),
then conquer your way to the coast, create a Duchy, stay Independent then create your own Merchant Republic

Can't you create a merchant republic as a vassal tribal duke?

Nope, you need to be independent contrary to feudal, MR can't be created as a vassal, as a liege you can create a vassal one, but that's not very helpful when you want to become one yourself.

Edit : https://ck2.paradoxwikis.com/Government check "Found Merchant Republic" for the list of requirements as a tribe in this page.

Is there a way to imprison the pope as a pagan? I've been trying lately ("for research purposes" I assure you) mainly by raiding (and attacking his army if he's leading one) but no such luck so far. Is there a better way?

I'm the Empire of Rajastan and have the Kingdom of Transoxiana. There is some idiot baron with 400 men in Spain (!) who keeps pressing someone's claim on Transoxiana on me. How can that even happen? How can he declare war that far away? And why doesn't he see that I outnumber him 100:1?

Is he a lunatic? AI rationality is based on a few inputs. Mostly, they'll act in their best interest and war to expand if they think they have a good chance at taking you. But certain traits can reduce their rationality, and make them take maddening decisions. It's also possible that he was forced into it by favour.

Enjoy the free gold and prisoner.

How can he declare war that far away?

Did you change the Game Rule concerning Diplomatic Range ?
Maybe there's a catholic or dynasty member closer to your realm.
Sadly i forgot what and how much infuences diplo range.

Either way, i rarely, but occasionaly get some war declerations against my vassals, thus the war becoming invalid shortly after.
There are sure very rarely mysterious hiccups with war declaring.

You can for sure imprison the pope if he is leading a crusade against you, like every other commander. I'm pretty sure you can capture him by raiding too, but I don't raid Rome much, so I have never seen it happen.

The only problem with that you have to release him after the war. I want to keep him around for a bit.

another q: right now one of my son's concubines has a claim on Byzantine Empire, lulz. My threat is too high to do anything with that but I'm wondering what would happen if I won the war to claim it for her. Does she remain my son's concubine and his sons through her become heirs/have claims?

I executed him the second he was captured and I got the Papal Manche achievement. Always so great to get rare achievement on the first try. :p

I thought you had to sacrifice him during a blot. Thanks for the info :)

You have to meet a few conditions though. Found on the Paradox Wiki :

This execution method is available for anyone with a capital in the India, Persia, Middle East, or East Africa regions. Execution methods are random, but when the target is a religious head, elephants are especially likely. Valid targets are the Pope, the Fraticelli Pope, the Sunni Caliph, the Shia Caliph, the Ibadi Caliph, and the Kharijite Caliph.

Do characters have to have sex with someone who has the Great Pox in order to contract it?
I don't know for a fact but my anecdotal experience is that no, the Great Pox does not require actual sex. The reason I says this is because I'm very loyal IRL so I tend to play that way in CK2 and I've contracted the Great Pox a lot more often than I've slept around.
